After battling through a stroke in March, Shadow arrived at Encompass Health Desert Canyon with a goal of regaining his independence. This loving father of two wanted to be able to make it back home safely to spend time with his young daughters. Here he is ringing the bell for his final therapy session and starting the next phase on his journey.

Encompass Health of Desert Canyon, Henderson and Las Vegas participated in the 2021 Las Vegas Go Red for Women Digital Experience on March 25. Encompass Health is a proud sponsor of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association raising awareness and funds to fight heart disease and stroke.

April is Occupational Therapy Month, so we'd like to recognize our site coordinator of clinical education and standout senior OT, Shirnice. Shirnice has been with Encompass Health for 15 years and has worked as an occupational therapist for 22 years! In Shirnice's free time, she helps out as a Sunday school teacher for kids in fifth and sixth grade. Her love for helping people has been passed along to her two daughters. One is a nurse, and the is in nursing school. Big thank you to Shirnice and all of our OT staff. Happy Occupational Therapy Month!

Last week, Gene came to Desert Canyon after a lengthy battle with COVID-19. His journey at the acute care hospital had its ups and downs, but he finally made it to Encompass Health more motivated than ever to get back home. Gene's case manager said he had a big goal to walk out of rehabilitation in one week, so he could return home to his family. Here is Gene hitting that goal and heading home! Way to go, Gene!

The S.T.O.P. Cops were out in full force searching for offenders of our safe mobility program. This program utilizes protocols to safely transfer patients to reduce the chance of an injury to our patients as well as our clinicians.
