At our hospital you will receive:

  • 24/7 nursing care, including nurses who specialize in rehabilitation
  • Frequent visits from a physician*

David Coggins, CEO
David Coggins, MS, PT

Chief Executive Officer

David has more than 32 years of health care expertise, of which ten years have been at the senior management level.

David brings more than 32 years of health care expertise to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England of which ten years have been at the senior management level. He received his undergraduate degree in education from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in physical therapy from Boston University. David became the CEO at HealthSouth New England Rehabilitation Hospital in December 2017, after serving as the director of marketing operations.

Daniel Lyons
Daniel Lyons, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Lyons has been the medical director for more than 10 years.

Dr. Lyons has been a medical director for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England for more than 10 years. A graduate of Clark University, he completed his medical studies at Tufts Medical School. Dr. Lyons completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. He is board-certified in rehabilitation medicine, as well as spinal cord injury medicine.

Dr. Lyons is an independent private practice physician.

Marjan Bruno

Director of Pharmacy

Marjan has been with Encompass Health for over a decade and brings more than 25 years of pharmaceutical experience to her role.

Marjan has been with Encompass Health for over a decade and brings more than 25 years of pharmaceutical experience to her role as director of pharmacy. She plays an integrated role in the hospital’s antimicrobial stewardship program, opioid stewardship program and medication reconciliation compliance. Marjan graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in science.

Nerline Destin, LCSW

Director of Case Management

Nerline Destin joined the leadership team in October 2017.
Nerline Destin joined the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England leadership team in October 2017. She graduated from Regis College in Weston MA with a degree in political science. Additionally, Nerline obtained a Master of Social Work from Simmons College in Boston MA. She began her career in social work at the Boston Emergency Team (Baycove), Walker Home and School and eventually transitioned to case management at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She recently worked at CuraHealth in Boston as the director of case management. Nerline is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 8 years of experience in case management.

Teresa Hayes
Teresa Hayes, MSW, LICSW

Business Development Director

Teresa has more than 15 years of experience in post-acute healthcare.

Teresa became the business development director at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England in January 2018, after spending two and half years providing clinical consulting to acute rehabilitation hospitals across the country. With more than 15 years of experience in post-acute healthcare, Teresa leads a team that assists community members in accessing the acute rehabilitative level of care. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of South Alabama and a master’s degree in social work from Boston College. Teresa is the immediate past-president of the board of directors for the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts and is still an active board member.

Lauren Healey, MBA

Human Resources Director

Lauren joined the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England leadership team in August of 2015.

Lauren joined the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England leadership team in August of 2015. She graduated from Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass. in 2009 with a degree in psychology. Lauren began her human resources career working in manufacturing for Pierce Aluminum before transitioning to health care. She obtained her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management in 2015.

SCOTT LUBA

Controller

Scott brings more than 20 years of healthcare finance experience to his role of controller.

Scott brings more than 20 years of healthcare finance experience to his role of controller at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England. He worked as business office manager then co-administrator of the outpatient surgery center of Hilton Head in South Carolina for more than 12 years. He then moved into a controller position for Parkland Medical Center and Transformations Care Network for five years. He obtained his master’s degree in public health in healthcare policy and management from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and a master’s degree in business administration in finance and information technology from Rutgers University Graduate School of Management. As part of his role, Scott has oversight over the finances, accounting, supply chain, IT and health information management of the hospital.

Kevin Piendak, EMBA, OTR/L

Director of Quality and Risk Management

Kevin brings more than 20 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience to his role.

Kevin brings more than 20 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience to his role of director of quality and risk management at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England. After graduating from Quinnipiac University with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy, he began his career as a therapist and developed a wide range of clinical skills with multiple diagnostic populations. Since earning an executive master’s degree in business administration in 2002, Kevin has held a number of leadership positions within the inpatient rehabilitation setting. He has also served on the executive board for the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapists and remains active in initiatives that relate to the advancement of occupational therapy services within the state.

Thomas Plante, PT

Director of Therapy Operations

Tom is a graduate of Northeastern University, and has been practicing in the field of physical therapy for more than 16 years.

Tom is a graduate of Northeastern University, and has been practicing in the field of physical therapy for more than 16 years. He is experienced in multiple settings of physical therapy, including acute rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home care and school based. His treatment areas focus on spinal cord injury, stroke, spasticity and wheelchair seating. Tom started with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England in December 2007, and became the director of therapy operations in December 2015.

Deborah Rich, BSN, RN, CCM

Chief Nursing Officer

Deb brings more than 20 years of extensive nursing and case management experience to her role of chief nursing officer.

Deb brings more than 20 years of extensive nursing and case management experience to her role of chief nursing officer at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England. She began her career as a certified nursing assistant and then attended nursing school to become a rehabilitation nurse at Youville Hospital in Cambridge, Mass. While at Youville Hospital, she spent many years as a liaison before advancing to the director of admissions. Deb joined the case management team at Encompass Health New England in 2007 as the director of case management, and in September 2017, Deb transitioned to her current role of chief nursing officer.

Director of Facilities and Safety Officer

Dave brings more than 10 years of experience to his role for our Woburn, Beverly and Lowell hospitals.

Dave brings more than a decade of hospitality and residential facilities experience to his role as director of facilities and safety officer for our Woburn, Beverly and Lowell hospitals. Dave is certified in HVAC, Level 1 electrical, OSHA and EPA Universal. Dave is responsible for ensuring standard and regulatory compliance in all buildings, systems and equipment, installation, and maintenance.
