Trish Hollifield, RN, BSN, CRRN began her career with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Chattanooga in August 1998 as an occupational therapy technician. She worked closely with the outpatient department training as a phlebotomist and learned how to draw labs for Coumadin therapy monitoring. Trish seized the opportunity to cross-train in the speech therapy department, which led her to becoming registered as a speech therapy technician. In 2002, Trish was accepted into Chattanooga State Technical Community College’s registered nursing program. While pursuing her nursing degree, she supported some of the hospital’s non-clinical departments by working as an admissions clerk and receptionist. After graduating in 2005, Trish began her nursing career as a registered nurse in the unit. She quickly climbed the clinical ladder with a promotion to charge nurse in 2007. Another major accomplishment of Trish’s during this same year was completing the specialty training and examination to become a certified rehabilitation registered nurse (CRRN). Trish continued achieving career goals when she transferred to the patient assessment standards coordinator (PASC) position in 2007. The PASC position serves as the hospital’s subject matter expert regarding FIM (functional independence measure) and was responsible for transitioning our clinicians from FIM to Section GG in 2019.

It was only a matter of time before another growth opportunity would present itself. In October 2019, Trish graduated from the Chamberlain School of Nursing with her bachelor’s in nursing (President’s Honors) and accepted the position of chief nursing officer. Trish’s story is a testament to the value that Encompass Health places on career development.
