During a car trip to Las Vegas to visit family for the holidays, Austin and his wife pulled over to the side of the road due to a blown tire. He got out of the car to change the tire and the next thing he knew, he had been hit by an oncoming vehicle. “I just remember waking up on my back and seeing both bones sticking out of my leg,” said Austin. Doctors said it would be weeks before he could walk again; however, Austin remains determined to become independent again. His journey to recovery, which will likely include months of rehabilitation, began at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Las Vegas where they helped him work on function, balance and strength to achieve his goal.
