ROCKFORD, Ill., Feb. 12, 2020 – To recognize Brain Injury Awareness Month in March, Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital will host its annual Unmasking Brain Injury event on Wednesday, March 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the hospital’s dining room located at 950 South Mulford in Rockford.

The event allows visitors to view the amazing and inspiring works of art created by patients. The colorful masks will help tell patients’ stories of living with brain injury and overcoming stroke. They depict the emotion, creativity and reality of experiencing these conditions. The event is open to the community, and the hospital has extended invitations to local stroke, aphasia and brain injury support groups. Light refreshments will be provided.

Unmasking Brain Injury is a national program designed to promote awareness of the prevalence of brain injury and to give survivors a voice and the means to educate others of what it’s like to live with a brain injury.
