CHARLESTON, S.C., July 20, 2020 – Elizabeth Gibson has been appointed as chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston. In her position as CEO, Gibson oversees all of the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 49-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, located at 9181 Medcom St. She assumed the position on July 6, 2020.

“Elizabeth brings many years of healthcare experience to our team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston,” said Ed Mowen, regional vice president of Encompass Health’s MidAtlantic region. “She has continually succeeded in each role she’s held at our company and brings strong knowledge and a diverse skillset that will greatly benefit our team and patients.”

Gibson has experience in skilled nursing facilities, acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, emergency medical services and inpatient rehabilitation hospital operations. She achieved her bachelor’s degree in international business and a bachelor’s degree in modern languages from Duquesne University as well as a master’s degree in business administration from Kansas State University. Gibson worked in human resources before transitioning to hospital operations and was selected for Encompass Health’s competitive Developing Future CEO program, where she completed two years of hospital leadership training at an Encompass Health hospital. She began her career at Encompass Health in 2015 and worked at Encompass Health locations in Kansas and Arizona before relocating to South Carolina.
