College student recovers from ATV accident at Encompass Health in Cincinnati

An ATV accident left 19-year-old Evan Deisch of Cincinnati, Ohio with a severe traumatic head injury, aneurysm, the left side of his face broken, a broken jaw and a ruptured aorta. After being airlifted then treated at a trauma center, he was transferred to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital at Norwood to help him return to walking, playing the guitar and fishing. Forming a familial relationship with him in a time where his family couldn’t be inside of the hospital due to COVID-19 visitor restrictions, his therapist Healy even took on the role of barber and gave him a haircut during his stay.

Dr. Graham Garrison, physiatrist at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospitals of Cincinnati and brain injury program director discusses how rehabilitation plays a major role in the recovery process for patients like Evan, a 19 year old that was badly injured as a result of an ATV accident. Evan had multiple injuries including a traumatic brain injury, aneurysms, broken face, broken jaw and a ruptured aorta.
