At Encompass Health Valley of the Sun Rehabilitation Hospital, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Glendale, we serve the greater Phoenix area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury, cardiac conditions and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Congratulations Dr. Robert Kronenberg on winning the Bowl of Hygeia. The Arizona Pharmacy Association awarded him the coveted honor that was received by only 19 pharmacists in the entire country last year. Dr. Kronenberg was our hospital’s primary pharmacist for 19 years, and continues to work for us on a part-time basis after his retirement. Chief Executive Officer
Beth joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in 2001. She received her bachelor’s degree from CPSU in California and a master’s degree in business administration in healthcare management from WIU in Phoenix. Her management provides support to clinical and administrative efforts, while maintaining positive customer relations. Her motivation comes from working with a dynamic team who is dedicated to providing an exceptional patient experience.
Dr. Kravetz is board-certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine. He attended Stanford University and the University of Arizona, College of Medicine, and completed his residency at the University of California Davis Medical Center. Dr. Kravetz is the medical director and chief of staff at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, where he provides direct patient care and administrative direction. For more than 20 years Dr. Kravetz has combined compassion and expertise to help patients achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Director of Quality/Risk
Brenda joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in 2015. Originally from Texas, she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and her Master of Science in nursing education through Western Governors University. As a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) with more than twenty years’ experience, including an extensive background in clinical education, Brenda brings a passion for providing an exceptional patient experience through ensuring quality of care, extensive education, and compassion for those we serve. Brenda is also an ACLS/BLS instructor, a non-violent crisis intervention instructor, and an instructor for Encompass Health’s Clinical Excellence University CRRN Review Course.
Human Resources Director
Danette has been a part of the Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, family since 1994. She worked in various positions with the hospital while completing her bachelor’s degree in human resource management. She received her certification in Professional HR in 2009. The various positions she held within HealthSouth have helped as she recruits for openings and manages all aspects of employee relations. Danette's positive attitude is an effective tool whether she is interviewing potential employees or providing general orientation.
Katy joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in April 2009. She has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Phoenix and is a licensed CPA. Katy has 20 years of accounting experience in various industries including non-profit, transportation and construction. She enjoys working with staff to develop operational efficiencies at Valley of the Sun. This enables the hospital to continue to provide superior patient care and see positive patient outcomes.
Director of Business Development
Diane joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Valley of the Sun in November 2014 as a rehabilitation liaison then assumed the director of marketing operations position in September 2017. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the health care industry in case management and has extensive background in Arizona long-term care and rehabilitation for individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury or stroke. Diane is committed to patient advocacy and assisting patients in returning to the highest level of independence possible.
Director of Therapy Operations
Derry has been a member of the Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, team since 2002, and has treated patients since 1989. She has a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, and enjoys using new techniques and technology to help patients achieve independence. Derry is a firm believer that patient knowledge promotes patient satisfaction. She works with her staff to promote superior outcomes, cutting edge therapy treatment, and to exceed the patient's expectations.
Chief Nursing Officer
Stephanie earned her undergraduate degree at Grand Canyon University and her master’s degree at Chamberlain University. She began her career at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in 2010 and quickly found her passion for rehabilitation nursing. She has worked in a variety of clinical roles prior to becoming chief nursing officer of Encompass Health Valley of the Sun in Glendale, AZ in 2014.
Director of Case Management
Liz joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in 1996 and is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse. During her career she has held a variety of clinical and management positions, which have given her the experience to understand and respond to patients’ concerns, which is a key element in the continual effort to improve the rehabilitation experience for each patient.
