Hospital Happenings

Kayla Birmingham

Kayla Birmingham shares a bit about herself below:

I was born and raised in Broken Arrow, OK. I completed both my Bachelor's in communication disorders and sciences and my Master's of Science in Speech Language Pathology at The University of Arkansas. After graduation, I moved to Kansas City and started my career in long term care, but was missing the higher acuity and complexity of inpatient rehab.

Returning to Fayetteville, I have felt motivated and supported by Encompass Health to continue my education to better serve and support our community with communication impairments. After inquiring about the Lingraphica Certification Specialist program, I found it essential to add to our SLP department toolbox to aid our non-verbal patients with a functional communication modality.

The Lingraphica TouchTalk AAC Device assists individuals with a variety of speech and language impairments to improve their communication, speech and quality of life. My other roles and interests include dysphagia management with an emphasis on fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) for diagnostics, participation on the Parkinson's team and a current pursuit of becoming a certified brain injury specialist.
