TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 22, 2022- Dusan Makel has been appointed as chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toledo. In his position as CEO, Toledo oversees the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, located at 4647 Monroe Street. He assumed the position in November.

“Dusan brings more than two decades of leadership experience to his new role as CEO with a focus on patient safety and quality outcomes,” said Troy DeDecker, President of Encompass Health’s Central region. “Dusan has a passion for building relationships amongst his staff and patients, and I am confident in his ability to serve the community of Toledo.”

Makel has served in various clinical and leadership roles throughout his 22-year healthcare career. Before transitioning into his most recent role as CEO, he served as associate administrator and director of quality and risk management at Mount Carmel Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health in Westerville, Ohio. Makel previously served as director of quality and regulatory at Twin Valley Behavioral Care in Columbus, Ohio. He also serves as president of the Ohio Society of Healthcare Risk Managers, which focuses on advancing leaders in the field of risk management.

Makel earned a dual master’s degree in business administration from Ohio Dominican University and in clinical counseling from Ashland University.
