Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis helps COVID-19 survivor that delivered baby while in coma return home

Susie Espinosa was admitted to the hospital at 27 weeks pregnant and shortly after placed in a medically induced coma for COVID-19 complications. When she was woken from the coma at 37 weeks of pregnancy, she was surprised with her new baby boy, who was delivered via a cesarean section. Now with a mission to regain function and strength due to nerve damage in order to return home and care for her new baby and three other children, she was transferred to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis for inpatient therapy. When she left for the hospital she was unsure if she’d ever see her children again, but today, she’s back home with them and is still working with the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis team in outpatient therapy to reach her highest level of function.
