Oct. 27, 2026 – Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Bluffton is expanding to meet the growing need for inpatient rehabilitation. Construction began earlier this year and is expected to be completed in March 2027.

“Since opening in 2018, we have seen the demand for inpatient rehabilitation grow,” said Amber Kendig, CEO of Encompass Health Bluffton. “Expanding our hospital will allow us to serve more patients. We strive to be an option for inpatient rehabilitation close to home for our community.”

The more than 12,000-square-foot expansion will add 12 patient beds, increasing the hospital’s capacity from 38 to 50 beds. The project will also include a new dialysis suite and expansions to the therapy gym and mobility courtyard.

"Providing dialysis onsite allows patients to receive treatment without leaving the hospital, helping them stay focused on their rehabilitation goals," Kendig said. "The expanded therapy gym and mobility courtyard will give patients more space to practice the skills they need to recover."

Encompass Health Bluffton provides inpatient rehabilitation for patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital helps patients regain independence and return to the activities that matter most to them.

The hospital holds Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certifications in Stroke Rehabilitation, Parkinson’s Disease Rehabilitation and Hip Fracture Rehabilitation.
