July 17, 2026 – Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Katy has increased capacity to care for more patients following a hospital expansion. The hospital has opened a new unit of 15 private patient beds, bringing its total bed count to 75.
“We aren’t simply adding more space to our hospital,” said Nick Hardin, CEO of Encompass Health Katy. “We are investing in our community and its people. We can now say ‘yes’ to more patients trying to recover from a traumatic event.”
Encompass Health Katy serves patients recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries, including stroke and other neurological conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital provides physical, occupational and speech therapies to help patients restore function and improve quality of life.
“When you watch a patient recovering from a stroke or brain injury learn to walk or talk again, you understand the healing that is possible when the right healthcare services are made available,” said Dr. Samuel Kim, hospital medical director. “Now, more patients will have the option for a stronger recovery.”
The expansion makes Encompass Health Katy the largest freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in West Houston. Construction on the expansion started in January. Encompass Health Katy initially opened in 2019 and has served approximately 9,000 patients in its seven years.
