May 30, 2026 — Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Salisbury partnered with TidalHealth and the Delmarva Shorebirds to bring stroke awareness directly to the Salisbury community during the annual Strike Out Stroke event.
The event, organized each year by the United Stroke Alliance, aims to educate the public about recognizing the warning signs of stroke and the critical importance of seeking immediate medical care. Early intervention can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.
During the game, hospital staff distributed magnets to attendees featuring the key warning signs of stroke, often remembered by the acronym F.A.S.T. — face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call emergency services. The materials are designed to serve as a quick, accessible reminder.
Team members from Encompass Health were also on-site to speak with attendees about inpatient rehabilitation services and the resources available to stroke survivors and their families. The hospital provided information on recovery options, answered questions about inpatient rehabilitation and connected with community members interested in learning more about stroke prevention.
“Events like this allow us to meet people where they are and have meaningful conversations about health,” said Heather Milligan, rehabilitation liaison at Encompass Health Salisbury. “Stroke awareness and education can truly save lives.”
The partnership shows a shared mission among local healthcare organizations and community groups to improve health outcomes across the region through education and engagement.
Encompass Health Salisbury plans to continue expanding its presence in community-based initiatives, with additional awareness events already in the works. In addition to outreach efforts, the hospital hosts quarterly stroke support group meetings, providing survivors and caregivers a space to connect, share experiences and access ongoing education.
