Local Florida woman heads home after recovering from a traumatic burn injury

Arianna Esquiline’s story - NBC 6 Miami

March 12, 2026 — Arianna Esquiline is finally headed home after weeks of recovering from a traumatic burn injury. Esquiline was on vacation in Miami when a barbeque grill accident caused third-degree burns over her entire body. At first, doctors gave Esquiline a low chance of survival, but she lived. She then came to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Miami for intense therapy.

“I feel amazing,” Esquiline told NBC 6. “I’m blessed to have such an amazing husband and family. I can’t complain.”

Surrounded by the hospital therapists that assisted in her recovery, Esquiline shared that she had to relearn the basics before she could head home.

“I feel like a little baby again,” Esquiline said. “I’ve had to learn everything I can again – even to eat.”

Encompass Health Miami Medical Director Evant Grant applauded her successful recovery.

“She now needs to begin working to improve her strength,” Grant said. “Improve her range of motion and prevent loss of range of motion and stiffening of the affected joints. She has simply done so, though, with flying colors.”

With her therapists and nurses cheering and celebrating, Esquiline walked out of the hospital headed home to Fort Myers, Florida. Life will look different, but she’s grateful for a strong start on the road to recovery.
