May 8, 2026 — Encompass Health recently gathered its board of directors, executive and regional leaders, and a special group of employees and their guests in Birmingham, Alabama to celebrate this year's 2025 Outstanding Employee Achievement Award (OEAA) region recipients — eight exceptional employees whose compassion, leadership and commitment to excellence exemplify the Company's values and make a positive difference in the lives of patients and families.
The region recipients were honored during the OEAA gala on May 6, an annual celebration recognizing employees selected from across Encompass Health's eight operating regions. Each recipient was chosen from among hospital-level employees of the year and ultimately selected by regional leaders to represent the very best of their region.
Throughout the evening, attendees heard inspiring stories, viewed tribute videos and applauded the dedication of colleagues who consistently go above and beyond for patients, teammates and their communities. The celebration included remarks from President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Tarr, Chairman of the Board Greg Carmichael and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Pat Tuer.

Jake Smith
Quality and Risk Coordinator
Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute (Illinois)
Since joining the Van Matre team in 2023, Smith has played a key role in advancing quality, safety and patient experience. As co-champion of the hospital's Joint Commission Spinal Cord Injury program, he supported a flawless recertification and contributed to notable gains in patient satisfaction. Known for his compassion and steady leadership, Smith is frequently recognized for listening, de-escalating concerns and supporting patients, families and staff.
