At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Harmarville, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Serving Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation after stroke and brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Hospital happenings

Encompass Health Harmarville and Sewickley hosted their inaugural Drive Thru Health and Wellness Extravaganzas. These creative senior health fairs were held in the parking lots of both campuses in accordance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Community members were able to drive through and pick up treats, great information and resources. With more than 40 healthcare partners in attendance at both events, the seniors received valuable information.

When Lisa Sprague underwent a total knee replacement in January 2020, she developed muscle spasms in her leg that made it difficult to walk and was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. She was sent home to do physical therapy but struggled to walk and complete activities of daily living, and couldn't put any weight on her leg.

Our hospital was treated to quite the performance as Bailey the therapy dog showed off her skills in our courtyard for patients to watch through their windows. A big thank you to Bailey and her mom for bringing smiles to the faces of our patients and employees.

James Kreshon
James Kreshon, Jr., D.O.

Medical Director

Dr. Kreshon is a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on orthopedic, geriatric and amputee rehabilitation.

Dr. Kreshon is a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on orthopedic, geriatric and amputee rehabilitation. He is the former medical director for the rehabilitation unit at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kreshon currently serves on the executive board as the vice president for ChoiceCare Physicians. He has been a member of the medical staff at Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville and a member of ChoiceCare Physicians group practice since 2001. Dr. Kreshon has been on active staff at the West Penn Allegheny Health System, Suburban Campus, since 2001. He is also on staff at various area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Kreshon completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is a member of multiple professional societies and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.

Kathy Grills joins Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Hospital with more than 20 years of progressive human resources experience in the health care industry.

Kathy Grills joins Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Hospital with more than 20 years of progressive human resources experience in the health care industry. Her expertise is in employee relations, performance management and employee engagement. She received her undergraduate degree in social work from Pennsylvania State University and her Master of Arts from LaRoche College in human resource management.

Area Business Development Director

Lisa Hopkins, OTR/L, is the director of marketing operations for Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville.

Lisa Hopkins, OTR/L, is the director of marketing operations for Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville. She started her career as an occupational therapist after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. Since then, she’s held a variety of leadership roles both in occupational therapy, as well as marketing. Immediately prior to joining as Encompass Health Sewickley’s DMO, Lisa was a part of the hospital’s joint marketing team with Encompass Health Harmarville, serving as a marketing liaison covering the geographical territory and prior as a rehab liaison covering the South Hills. Prior to joining Encompass Health Harmarville, she served as the manager of occupational therapy for the Western Pennsylvania Hospital. Other roles she has held include the co-director for the Encompass Health Harmarville 5K Determination Dash, Chair of the Pittsburgh Fieldwork Council and member of both the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association. She currently serves as chairperson for the North/West Chapter of the MASH (Marketing Admissions Supporting Healthcare) Networking group.

Denise has more than 20 years of experience in case management and social work services in the healthcare industry.

Denise has more than 20 years of experience in case management and social work services in the healthcare industry. Prior to working with Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville, Denise was the director of care management and director of social work services at UPMC Braddock. She received her undergraduate degree in sociology and holds dual master’s degrees in management and technology and business administration from Carlow College. She also holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a board member and the president elect of the American Case Management Association and a member of several other professional organizations.

Director of Therapy Operations

Casey is the director of therapy operations (DTO) and has over 20 years experience working at Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville.

Casey is the director of therapy operations (DTO) and has over 20 years experience working at Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville. Prior to his current position as DTO, Casey was the manager of the occupational therapy department focusing on functional outcomes and maximizing the clinical expertise of staff. Casey started his career as a staff therapist on the neuroscience unit. Then he transferred to the orthopedic unit to function as a team leader. Having graduated from Duquesne with his Master of Occupational Therapy in 1995, Casey continued to be active for 10 years at Duquesne as an adjunct faculty teaching courses in kinesiology, anatomy lab and neuro approaches to treatment. He continues to serve on the clinical advisory board for Chatham University. Casey is also, very active in occupational therapy profession at a national level.

Chief Nursing Officer

Eileen Skalski serves as Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville’s chief nursing officer.

Eileen Skalski serves as Encompass Health Harmarville, formerly HealthSouth Harmarville’s chief nursing officer. She has 20 years of professional nursing experience including various roles ranging from medical-surgical nursing to nursing leadership and nursing informatics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing SN and Master of Science in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and her doctorate of nursing practice from Waynesburg University. In the past, she has also served as an adjunct faculty member, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, for Thomas Edison State University, University of Pittsburgh and Waynesburg University. In addition, she has presented work at various healthcare-related conferences as well as served as a mentor for master’s-level students.

Dan is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 30 years of financial management experience in the healthcare industry.

Dan is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 30 years of financial management experience in the healthcare industry. Dan worked for seven years in public accounting serving a broad spectrum of healthcare clients. His progressive experience in the private health care sector covers a wide variety of financial and administrative positions including seven years as a chief financial officer. Dan became a member of the HealthSouth team in 2011. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and an Advanced Member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
