AnMed Health Rehabilitation Hospital reveals new patient unit, addresses growing need for rehabilitation

Sept. 24, 2026 – Residents in the Upstate now have greater access to rehabilitation care after experiencing a traumatic medical event. AnMed Health Rehabilitation Hospital unveiled a new unit of patient rooms Thursday, which increases the hospital’s total bed count from 60 to 76. Hospital and community leaders gathered to celebrate the opening and recognize the growing need in Anderson for inpatient rehabilitation care.

“We serve patients who have suffered strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, and complex neurological conditions,” said Heath Watson, hospital CEO. “These patients need the advanced level of care we provide to have a greater opportunity to recover stronger. This expansion means more patients will learn to walk, talk or care for themselves again after receiving the intensive therapy they deserve.”

The more than 11,000-square-foot addition also includes two dayrooms where patients can visit with family members and a nurses’ station. Anderson and South Carolina have experienced steady population growth over the past six years. As the population increases, so does the need for post-acute healthcare services. The additional inpatient rehabilitation beds at AnMed Health Rehabilitation Hospital will increase access to specialized rehabilitation care and reduce capacity pressures on acute care hospitals.

“Healing is possible when the right healthcare services are made available,” said Dr. Bill Vogenitz, hospital medical director. “Now, we can say ‘yes’ to more patients, and more patients will have hope for returning to their lives.”

AnMed Health Rehabilitation Hospital opened to patients in 2003 and is a joint venture partnership between Encompass Health and AnMed Health. Patients recovering from life-changing injuries and illnesses receive a minimum of three hours of intensive therapy five days each week, frequent physician visits and 24-hour nursing care.
