June 18, 2026 — Troy Trejo has been appointed chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Bangor. The hospital, under construction at 1017 Union St., is a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital and is expected to open to patients in October 2026.
“I am honored to lead the opening of Encompass Health’s hospital in Bangor and to serve as its first CEO,” Trejo said. “As a native of Bangor, I am passionate about growing access to healthcare for this community and the region. There is a great need for inpatient rehabilitation services here, and I look forward to building a patient-centered hospital that provides state-of-the-art care close to home.”
Trejo has spent his entire career in healthcare. He has more than 19 years of progressive experience growing clinical services, improving financial performance, and planning and developing access to care in Maine. Prior to Encompass Health Bangor, Trejo was the vice president of strategy for the MaineHealth system—the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in Northern New England. He is experienced in leading system strategy, business growth, developing partnerships, and building tools and processes that enhance efficiency and productivity across hospital operations.
“Troy is an experienced healthcare executive who knows this community and understands the post-acute healthcare needs,” said Mat Gooch, president of Encompass Health’s Northeast region. “He brings tremendous knowledge of overseeing complex hospital operations, and he also understands the importance of keeping patients’ needs as our top priority. The hospital will have a strong impact in the Bangor region under his leadership.”
Trejo earned a master’s degree in management from Harvard University Extension School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and policy from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He is active in the community, including serving on the board of the Portland Museum of Art and as an advisory committee member for Northeastern University Roux Institute Healthcare Founder Residency.
Encompass Health Bangor will be the Company’s first wholly owned hospital in Maine. The Company’s hospital in Portland, New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland, is a long-standing joint venture partnership with MaineHealth.
