June 6, 2025 - The Charlotte Business Journal named Scott Butler, area chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Mill, to its 2025 Most Admired CEO Awards program. The program recognizes leaders who have a proven track record of innovation in their field, outstanding financial performance and a strong commitment to the community and workplace culture.
“As a CEO, you are constantly evaluated on various financial and quality metrics that can easily change from month to month and can be influenced greatly by a small number of people in key positions,” said Butler. “This recognition seems special, as building a successful culture requires consistent effort from a whole team of people moving in the same direction over an extended period of time.”
Butler credits the award to the Encompass Health Fort Mill team for their outstanding efforts in making the hospital successful over the past eight months. Encompass Health Fort Mill opened to patients in September 2024. Butler, serving as Encompass Health Rock Hill CEO since 2022, was then promoted to area CEO to lead both hospitals.
Butler is also an integral part of the Fort Mill community. He serves on the Laurel Institute of Technology’s Practical Nursing Program Advisory Council. Through the council, he provides guidance for a program that influences future health care leaders. Butler also volunteers his time to Catawba Ridge High School and the Palmetto Rage Volleyball Club as an assistant volleyball coach. Investing in future generations is one of his top priorities.
“My family and I have lived in the Fort Mill area for a little over three years now,” added Butler. “I feel as though it’s my responsibility to give back to this community to ensure it remains one of the best places to live in the greater Charlotte area.”
Inside the hospital walls, Butler remains committed to excellent patient care and high employee satisfaction. He believes in recognizing potential in employees and celebrating when employees meet goals and excel in their work.
“I have found, over the course of my career, that when a CEO takes great care of their people and gets the culture right, it leads to success in almost every other aspect of the business,” Butler said. “The strongest organizations are the ones that have the best culture.”
Award honorees were chosen following a nomination process. Butler accepted the Most Admired CEO Award in the health care category at an event dinner on June 5.
