Encompass Health names George Gilliam as CEO of new hospital in Danbury.
May 29, 2025 - George Gilliam has been appointed as CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Danbury. The hospital, under construction at 50 Reserve Road in Danbury, Connecticut, is a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital expected to open to patients in September.
“I am honored to be selected as Encompass Health Danbury’s CEO,” said Gilliam. “I am ready to begin leading our team to provide a multidisciplinary, customized approach to patient care. I know the rehabilitation services we will provide will positively impact the Danbury community and surrounding areas.”
As a physical therapist, Gilliam brings 21 years of health care experience to Encompass Health Danbury, including 10 years of experience in ambulatory care, acute care, operations, emergency management and compliance. He previously worked for HCA Florida Northwest Hospital as vice president of operations. In this role, Gilliam was responsible for rehabilitation services, respiratory therapy, security and food and nutrition.
“George is a results-driven health care leader with significant experience in the rehabilitation setting,” said Mat Gooch, regional vice president of operations for Encompass Health. “He will have great success in building a strong team at Encompass Health Danbury, which will allow us to provide high-quality, compassionate care for our patients.”
Gilliam earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Additionally, he holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Health Administration from Baylor University. Gilliam is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Encompass Health Danbury is one of eight inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, including a satellite location, Encompass Health is opening in 2025.
