July 14, 2026 – George Gilliam, chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Danbury, was named to Hartford Business Journal’s 2026 Power 25 Healthcare list. The award recognizes influential leaders who are shaping the future of healthcare in Connecticut.

Less than a year after opening to patients, Encompass Health Danbury has quickly established itself as a valuable healthcare resource for the region, delivering high-quality inpatient rehabilitation services and strong patient outcomes.

“It is an honor to be listed on HBJ’s Power 25 Healthcare list,” Gilliam said. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team, whose commitment to exceptional patient care has helped us make a meaningful impact in the Danbury community. This honor belongs to each member of our hospital.”

Since opening in September 2025, the hospital has reached several notable milestones. More than 88% of patients have been discharged home following treatment, a rate that exceeds the national average and highlights the hospital’s focus on helping patients regain independence and return to their daily lives.

“As we approach the completion of our first year of serving patients, I am proud of what our team has accomplished,” Gilliam said. “We remain committed to advancing inpatient rehabilitation care in our community and helping more patients achieve successful recoveries.”

Looking ahead, Gilliam plans to continue growing Encompass Health’s reputation in Connecticut, while increasing awareness of the important role inpatient rehabilitation plays in helping patients and caregivers navigate the recovery journey.

At Encompass Health Danbury, patients receive a minimum of three hours of intensive therapy five days each week, frequent physician visits and 24-hour nursing care.
