Ryan Thomas patient story (FOX 4 News)
Jan. 28, 2026 — Ryan Thomas, a husband and father of three, is thankful to be alive.
“I'm here,” Thomas told FOX 4 News. “I'm breathing. I'm living.”
Thomas was riding his motorcycle when a truck pulled in front of him, causing a crash. Thomas was left on the side of the highway and had to call 911 himself. The accident led to the amputation of Thomas' right leg below the knee. After a week in an acute care hospital, Thomas came to Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Myers for intensive therapy.
“I guess from here on out, I just have to put my best foot forward,” he chuckled.
Thomas' positive attitude is helping him thrive in recovery, as he waits for a prosthetic limb.
“Once he gets a prosthetic limb, he's going to be able to do everything you and I can do,” said Kyle Amrine, director of therapy operations at Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Myers.
For now, Thomas is working on building strength and extending forgiveness.
