Encompass Health Greenville reveals new patient unit, doubles hospital capacity

Sept. 15, 2026 — More Greenville residents can now receive the care they need following a life-changing medical event. Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Greenville unveiled a new unit of patient rooms Tuesday, doubling the capacity of the hospital. The new unit, comprised entirely of private patient rooms, increases the hospital’s total bed count from 40 to 80.

“As Greenville continues to grow, the need for our level of care grows, too,” said Joshua Trout, hospital CEO. “Doubling our capacity means more people who have suffered a stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, amputation or hip fracture will have access to the advanced rehabilitation care they need. This is what changes lives and enables people to return to our community stronger.”

The more-than-26,000-square-foot addition also includes four dayrooms, a nurses’ station, and a new family courtyard with walking paths and benches. The hospital’s therapy gym was expanded to accommodate more patients, and the therapy courtyard received enhancements such as a therapy pavilion, sunshades and walking paths with therapy surfaces. The hospital’s growth is also set to make an economic impact by providing approximately 90 new jobs.

Encompass Health Greenville opened to patients in August 2021. Patients recovering from traumatic injuries and illnesses receive a minimum of three hours of intensive therapy five days each week, frequent physician visits and 24-hour nursing care.
