Encompass Health Sarasota talks about unique approach to rehabilitation (ABC 7)

Sept. 15, 2025 – In honor of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota spoke with ABC 7 News about the unique rehabilitation services the hospital offers.

“There is not a cookie-cutter routine for rehabilitation,” Matt Shouse, associate administrator at Encompass Health Sarasota, told ABC 7. “If there is, you’re in the wrong place. For us, every patient that comes through our door is a unique patient, unique person. We work to find out what they were doing before their illness, what they need to do now and how do we get them there.”

Shouse shares that Encompass Health Sarasota has a strong legacy in the Sarasota community. The hospital has been serving patients for 40 years. The hospital’s main goal is helping patients get back on their feet and return to their most independent level of function as possible.

“Rehabilitation is so important, because, unfortunately, most of us, at some point in our lives, go through some sort of setback physically – whether due to injury, someone falls and breaks a hip, someone has a stroke, someone has a spinal cord injury or brain injury,” said Shouse. “Because of that, they need to know what the best options are and how do I get through this process.”

Shouse also shared a few important questions any patient should ask prior to choosing a rehabilitation option. To hear these questions and the full interview with ABC 7, click here.
