Encompass Health Shreveport increases capacity to care for more patients as it celebrates fifth anniversary

Aug. 26, 2026 — Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shreveport is expanding its capacity to serve more patients. The hospital broke ground on a 14-bed expansion that will increase its total bed count from 40 to 54. Construction is underway as the hospital celebrates its fifth anniversary.

“Five years ago, we opened our doors with a vision of bringing advanced rehabilitation care to the Shreveport community,” said Christopher Phillips, hospital CEO. “Since then, we have helped thousands of patients recover from serious illnesses and injuries and achieve their highest level of independence.”

Encompass Health Shreveport serves patients recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries, including stroke and other neurological conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital provides physical, occupational and speech therapies to help patients restore function and improve quality of life.

“We continue to see firsthand how important access to inpatient rehabilitation care is for patients and families,” Phillips said. “As demand for our services has grown, so has the need for additional capacity. This expansion will help ensure more patients can receive the specialized rehabilitation care they need close to home.”

The hospital expects to open the new unit of patient rooms in spring 2027.
