Encompass Health Sioux Falls receives recognition for its stroke rehabilitation care

July 10, 2026 — Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sioux Falls earned recognition for its commitment to high-quality stroke rehabilitation care. The American Heart Association (AHA) named the hospital as a 2026 Certificate of Excellence winner for the Mission: Lifeline Stroke initiative. The initiative works to improve guideline-based care for stroke patients.

“Our hospital receiving this recognition is a testament to the excellent work we do to support patients recovering from stroke,” said Kristina Schroder, CEO of Encompass Health Sioux Falls. “We are committed to providing patients the advanced therapies they need to regain strength and function, and we’ll keep working to further the necessary care stroke patients deserve.”

The AHA recognizes and collaborates with hospitals, medical centers and healthcare organizations dedicated to improving stroke recovery. This year, Encompass Health Sioux Falls was one of two recipients in South Dakota of the Certificate of Excellence. To receive the designation, an organization must have a stroke-specific rehabilitation program, provide stroke education to all staff members, implement evidence-based protocols and policies, and perform continuous quality improvement.

Encompass Health Sioux Falls provides essential rehabilitation services that help patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions regain functional ability, independence and quality of life. Patients receive a minimum of three hours of intensive physical, occupational and/or speech therapy five days each week, as well as frequent physician visits and 24-hour nursing care.
