August 1, 2025 – For the past three years, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of York has been under full renovation. The renovation, which is now complete, included converting all patient rooms to private rooms and updating the dialysis suite and both therapy gyms to feature new technologies. The hospital now offers a new café and family meeting areas.
“This renovation shows Encompass Health York’s commitment to quality care and patient satisfaction,” said Josette Myers, area chief executive officer of Encompass Health York. “Having the private rooms and an updated hospital overall allows us to better serve our patients and improves their comfort, too. We know our patients and their families will greatly benefit from these transformations.”
Every part of the hospital was touched during the renovation process from patient rooms to therapy spaces. Encompass Health York Facilities Management Director and Safety Officer Joe Woods oversaw the large construction project and acknowledges the many benefits.
“Of course, the updated rooms offer greater privacy for the patient and reduces stress,” said Woods. “From a facility standpoint, though, the renovation enhances infection control by reducing the risk of cross-contamination. For our employees, it’s easier to control noise, lighting and temperature, which all create a more stable environment for both care delivery and facility maintenance.”
Woods sees the renovation as a strategic investment in both patient outcomes and staff satisfaction.
“The renovation modernizes our infrastructure,” said Woods. “It aligns us with best practices in hospital design and supports our long-term goals for quality and safety.”
Encompass Health York opened to patients in 1993. With the renovations, the hospital now features 71 private patient rooms. The hospital serves patients following a life-changing illness or injury, such as stroke, brain injury, limb loss, hip fracture or other complex neurological conditions. Encompass Health York holds multiple accreditations with The Joint Commission (TJC), including TJC Disease-Specific Care Certification in Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Brain Injury, Hip Fracture, Advanced Inpatient Diabetes and Wound Care Rehabilitation.
