March 11, 2026 — Lyndee Crawford, therapy team leader at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Waco, served as a national ambassador and participated in the Texas delegation at the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) 2026 National Conference and Awareness Day in Washington, D.C.

Crawford, who became certified as a brain injury specialist through the BIAA two years ago, was selected in October 2025 to serve as a national ambassador for the organization. Ambassadors focus on raising awareness, elevating patient voices and encouraging lawmakers to establish consistent standards of care for brain injury patients across the country.

“It was a great week of advocacy and learning. When we come together like this, we amplify the voices of those living with brain injury,” Crawford said. “Our goal is to make sure their needs are heard at every level of decision making.”

The three-day conference brings together BIAA members, partner organizations and national advocates for educational discussions and networking sessions. After two days of sessions and discussions, attendees spend the final day at Capitol Hill meeting with legislators and policymakers. This year's advocacy efforts centered on establishing a national Brain Injury Task Force.

Crawford also participated in the Texas delegation as they spoke to state officials about areas of interest and needs for support.

“Participating in the Texas delegation was an honor,” Crawford said. “Our group is committed to making sure Texas lawmakers understand the challenges patients and caregivers face and the support that is needed.”

Crawford said she plans to continue her advocacy work throughout the year, helping expand education and advance policies that improve care for individuals living with brain injuries. She hopes the conversations in Washington will spark continued momentum at both the national and state levels.
