Located in Charleston, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury, hip fracture and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Elizabeth has had a long tenure in healthcare and brings experience in skilled nursing facilities, acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, EMS and inpatient rehabilitation operations to her role as CEO. She achieved her bachelor’s degree in international business and a bachelor’s degree in modern languages from Duquesne University as well as a master’s degree in business administration from Kansas State University. Elizabeth worked in human resources before transitioning to hospital operations and completed Encompass Health’s Developing Future CEO program. She began her career at Encompass Health in 2015 and has worked at Encompass Health locations in Kansas and Arizona before relocating to South Carolina.
Dr. Walker is the program director of neuroscience services at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Charleston. She joins the Encompass Health Charleston team from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she resided as an associate professor and residency program director for the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Walker completed medical school at the University of Kentucky and served as the administrative chief resident during her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in spinal cord injury at the renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. She is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and brain injury medicine.
Chief Nursing Officer
Rachel Green began her career in the Roper St. Francis Hospital as a certified nursing assistant and grew into an LPN role at the rehabilitation department. Upon graduating from nursing school, she moved to a staff nurse role on an ICU at the Palmetto Health, Baptist Hospital. She then moved to work in the emergency department where she subsequently served in the role of charge nurse. Ms. Green was appointed as the chief nursing officer in June 2019. As nurse executive she directly supervises the 49-bed rehabilitation unit, as well as clinical oversight for nursing practice throughout the medical center. She previously served as the quality manager and area director of clinical operations at Select Health of SC and Kindred at Home. Ms. Green earned an associate's degree in nursing from Trident Technical College, and a master’s degree in nursing from Walden University.
Director of Facilities Management
From 1983-1999, Stuart Everidge was employed in the shipbuilding industry where he gained a diverse knowledge of structural and mechanical applications. This knowledge enabled him to transition into the field of mechanical contracting. In 1999, Stuart started a mechanical contracting firm specializing in commercial, marine and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration with a primary focus on military contracts. As the business progressed, he became a state licensed mechanical contractor and expanded his services to include healthcare facilities. In 2008, Stuart welcomed the offer of employment from a long-term customer as a means to enhance his work/life balance. Eventually outgrowing the position, he then accepted an offer at Vibra Hospital of Charleston as the director of plant operations. Having held this position from 2014-2017, Stuart eventually transitioned to Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community until 2019, guiding the facility through the CMS certification process as related to the Environment of Care and Life Safety standards. In 2019, he was recruited by Roper Hospital where he briefly worked as a supervisor of engineering prior to pursuing his current position with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston.
Director of Case Management
Wendy comes to Encompass Health with 28 years case management experience in varies acute care settings to include Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Vibra Long Term Acute Care Hospital and Hospice both inpatient and home setting. She is a graduate of Columbia College in Columbia, SC with a degree in social work. Wendy was recently nominated for case manager of the year for the Charleston/Tri-County area. In her spare time, Wendy enjoys boating and spending time with her family.
Tricia currently serves as controller at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston, formerly HealthSouth. Tricia’s career spans over 25 years of progressive and accomplished home health and hospital CFO experience. She received her master’s degree in business administration from North Greenville University in her hometown of Greenville, SC.
Program Director of Medical Services
Dr. Patel is a 2003 graduate of University of Pikeville School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Patel became board certified in 2006 by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has been serving the Charleston area since 2006. Dr. Patel is president of the Society of Hospital Medicine, Lowcountry chapter. In 2011, he founded Pinnacle Physicians, LLC, a hospitalist company with a mission to provide the highest quality of care for inpatient services.

Director of Quality and Risk
Greg Raines joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston as director of quality and risk management in April of 2020. With over 35 years in nursing leadership, nursing education and quality improvement in the acute care setting, Greg brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in maintaining compliance with state and federal standards for quality outcomes and patient safety. Greg holds master’s degrees in both nursing leadership and healthcare administration. He is also nationally certified in medical surgical nursing.
Program Director of Neurorehabilitation
Dr. Salerno is the program director of neurorehabilitation at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston. She joins the Encompass Health team from UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Salerno was a special education teacher before earning her M.D. at UAB School of Medicine. Following medical school, she completed six years of general surgery residency at the University of Virginia, and earned a master's degree in clinical research during that time. Dr. Salerno pursued an additional residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at UAB. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Director of Pharmacy Operations
Cathy has been the pharmacy director at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, since 2007. She has more than 14 years of pharmacy management experience. She received her BS in pharmacy from The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy. She also has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston in secondary education and taught history, geography, journalism and English before seeking her degree in pharmacy. Cathy instructs pharmacy students from South Carolina College of Pharmacy where she is an adjunct assistant professor. She has lived in the Charleston area for more than 30 years.
Human Resources Director
Susan has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare human resources management. She enjoys spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Susan is also involved with missions through her church.
Director of Therapy Operations
Christy Yatagan graduated from West Virginia University with a doctorate degree in physical therapy in 2009 and a bachelor's in exercise physiology in 2006. She has been a PT with Encompass Health for over ten years and was named DTO in 2018 after serving as a team leader and a department manager. Christy has 96 hours of specialized neuro IFRAH training but enjoys working with all patient populations. Christy previously led the hospital's team to maintain our Joint Commission Hip Fracture Management certification.
