Serving Missouri and the greater St. Louis area, we are a leading provider of rehabilitation after stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Medical Director
Dr. Grover, medical director of The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, provides care on an inpatient and outpatient rotation schedule. He is a board-certified physical medicine & rehabilitation physician (PM&R) .
His education and training include clinical care, research and administration/leadership. In addition to the PM&R residency at Washington University in St. Louis, he has completed a PhD in biomedical engineering, National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research fellowship, and master’s degree in healthcare administration.
Dr. Grover’s research and advocacy efforts relate to improving care and access for individuals with limb loss. He is co-chair of the Limb Restoration Rehab Networking Group for the American Congress of Rehabilitative Medicine and serves on the Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee for the Amputee Coalition. Dr. Grover is actively involved in the daily operations of The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis.

Director of Therapy Operations
Shivani Bass joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2007. She is certified as a neurological clinical specialist and clinical brain injury specialist. Shivani completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware, graduating in 2004. She then earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Washington University in 2007.
Director of Pharmacy
Charles Hoercher has served as the hospital’s director of pharmacy for 23 years. Charles graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1973, and has gained valuable experience in his field as a pharmacology instructor and as a clinical pharmacy consultant.
Business Development Director
Tracie serves as the director of admissions and marketing operations. She received her bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and her master's degree in social work from the University of Texas-Austin. Tracie brings more than 30 years of healthcare and 25 years of acute rehab expertise to The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis.
Associate Administrator
Ron joined Encompass Health in 2017. He has worked in healthcare for over 8 years in various aspects of quality, performance improvement, and dialysis. Most recently, Ron served as the director of quality and risk at Encompass Health Desert Canyon before transitioning into the associate administrator role at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis. Ron earned his bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration & policy with a minor in business administration from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and thereafter, his master’s degree in healthcare administration (MHA) and also holds his certification in lean six sigma, greenbelt.
Director of Human Resources
Michelle serves as the human resources director at The Rehabilitation Institute of St Louis. She attended Lindenwood University and has more than 10 years of experience in the human resources field.
Facilities Management Director
Barron Smith is the Facilities Management Director at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, an affiliation of BJC HealthCare and Encompass Health. He has worked in the HVAC field for over twenty-six years and has been a licensed stationary engineer since 2004. He obtained his HVAC associate degree in 2002 from Vatterott College. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in corporate communication in 2015 and his master’s degree in communication with a focus on training and development in 2016 from Lindenwood University.
Director of Quality and Risk Management
Angie serves as the director of quality and risk management. She has more than ten years of healthcare experience specifically at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis.
Chief nursing officer
Ann serves as chief nursing officer at the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis. She received her Associate of Science in Nursing from Excelsior University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University. Ann brings more than 12 years’ experience in nursing leadership and patient advocacy.
Director of Case Management
Deb Wilke joined the Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth team in December 2013. She brings more than 36 years of nursing and management experience to her role of director of case management. Prior to joining Encompass Health, she held the positions of manager of case management, St. Louis SSM Health Care system, and was the director of emergency services for two St. Louis Community Hospitals. Deb received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Nursing from Webster University in St. Louis, MO.
