Oct. 20, 2026 – Cheryl Miller, vice president of therapy operations for Encompass Health, received the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine's (ACRM) Career Development Outstanding Mentor Award during the organization's annual conference, recognizing her longstanding commitment to developing and mentoring rehabilitation professionals.
The award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to mentoring rehabilitation professionals throughout their careers and demonstrated exceptional service to mentoring members of ACRM.
Miller has spent more than 40 years advancing rehabilitation care and investing in the growth of clinicians and leaders. Since joining Encompass Health as a staff occupational therapist in 1984, she has served in numerous leadership roles across the organization, including therapy manager, director of therapy operations, director of case management and regional director of therapy operations. Today, she leads physical, occupational and speech therapy operations across Encompass Health, helping drive innovation, clinical excellence and positive patient outcomes.
"Cheryl's impact extends far beyond operational leadership," said Dr. Lisa Charbonneau, chief medical officer of Encompass Health. "Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to helping others learn, grow and achieve their potential. Countless clinicians, leaders and researchers have benefited from her guidance and encouragement, making this recognition especially well deserved."
A passionate advocate for professional development, Miller has mentored rehabilitation professionals at all stages of their careers, both within Encompass Health and across the broader rehabilitation community. She has taught as an adjunct instructor in occupational therapy programs in South Florida, served as a professional development coach and championed opportunities for clinicians to pursue leadership, research and evidence-informed practice.
As vice president of therapy operations, Miller has helped embed evidence-informed science into therapy practice across Encompass Health and supported nearly a decade of research through the Company's therapy research grant program. Her efforts have contributed to advancing knowledge and best practices in inpatient rehabilitation while fostering the next generation of rehabilitation leaders.
"I am deeply honored to receive this award from ACRM," Miller said. "Mentorship has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding aspects of my career. I have been fortunate to learn from exceptional mentors and colleagues, and I am grateful for every opportunity to support others as they grow in their careers and expand their impact on patient care."
Miller earned her undergraduate degree from Florida International University and her doctorate degree in occupational therapy from Nova Southeastern University. She is a longstanding member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and serves on the governing board of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation.
