At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Parkersburg, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and serving the greater Mid-Ohio Valley and surrounding areas, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Al brings more than 15 years of healthcare management expertise to Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Parkersburg and holds a master’s degree in management-healthcare administration. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and on the board of the West Virginia Hospital Association. Al holds a juris doctor degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Olson joined Encompass Health (formerly HealthSouth) in 2008. She is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Olson is a 1997 graduate of West Virginia University School of Medicine and a 2000 graduate of the Kanawha Valley Family Practice/Charleston Area Medical Center Family Practice Residency. After four years of active duty as an Air Force physician during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, she moved to the Parkersburg area in 2004.
Dr. Olson is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Pharmacy
Katie joined the team as director of pharmacy in 2002, although she has been involved with the facility since the beginning as a pharmacist consultant before there was a pharmacy. Having directed the pharmacies at both of the hospitals in Parkersburg, she found that she prefers the more personable practice available at a smaller facility such as Encompass. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
Facilities Management Director
Lauren joined Encompass Health Parkersburg, formerly HealthSouth Western Hills, in August 2015 as the safety officer. She has ten years’ experience working in local government as a registered environmental health specialist and certified professional in food safety. Lauren has extensive knowledge in The Joint Commission standards and life safety codes. Lauren graduated from Ohio University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental health. Lauren became the facilities management director in May of 2020.
Chief Nursing Officer
Beth brings more than 30 years of nursing experience to her role at Encompass Health of Parkersburg. She has been employed by Encompass Health since 2014 as director of quality and interim CNO at Northern Virginia, Fredericksburg Virginia and Shelby County, Alabama. Beth joined Encompass Health of Parkersburg as CNO in November of 2020. Beth graduated with a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi West Virginia.
Director of Care Management
Michelle has been employed at Encompass Health Parkersburg, formerly HealthSouth Western Hills, since 2006. She has worked in the field of social services for 17 years. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in social work and a certificate in women’s studies from West Virginia University she began her career as a licensed social worker. Michelle also holds a master’s degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University.
Business Development Director
Anna has worked at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, for 11 years. With more than 23 years of success in the healthcare industry, Anna has been a leader with a combined skill set consisting of strong business acumen and first-hand knowledge and understanding of how patient care is delivered and translates into results oriented strategies. She is a highly organized, effectual team player who empowers her staff and encourages innovative approaches and out of the box thinking that fosters both camaraderie and growth. Anna has proven experience as a leader of change in a very fast paced matrix environment. She is a hands-on leader with a proactive approach that focuses on execution.
Human Resources Director
Olivia joined Encompass Health Parkersburg as the human resources director in June 2020 having previously served as the human resources manager from 2019-2020 and the human resources assistant from 2015-2018. Olivia graduated from West Virginia University of Parkersburg in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Director of Quality and Risk Manager
Becky has been employed at Encompass Health Parkersburg, formerly HealthSouth Western Hills since July 2002. Becky worked 17 years in the mental health field as a case manager, mental health therapist, quality and risk manager and was a director of an adolescent and adult crisis stabilization program. She received a bachelor’s degree in social work from Ohio University and completed her master’s degree in education, specializing in community and agency counseling from Ohio University.
Director of Therapy Operations
Cami joined Encompass Health Parkersburg, formerly HealthSouth Western Hills, in September 2017 as director of therapy, previously serving as a staff physical therapist at the hospital from 2006-2013. She has management experience in long term skilled setting as well as treating physical therapy experience in home health and outpatient therapy. Cami graduated from University of Kentucky in 2006 with a master’s degree in physical therapy and a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. In addition, she has extensive dementia care training, receiving PAC certification in 2017.
Susan was named controller of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Parkersburg, formerly HealthSouth in January 2021. She has more than 20 years of experience, with eight of those in the health care industry. A Cleveland native, she graduated from Cleveland State University earning a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting.
