At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Scottsdale, we serve the greater Phoenix area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Larry brings 23 years of healthcare management experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale. He also served as the previously CEO at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of East Valley for two years and has held various hospital administration roles within the CHI Health System based in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of the American Congress of Healthcare Executives. Larry attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for his undergraduate studies as well as Purdue University for his master’s in business administration.
Medical Director
A graduate of the University of Florida, Dr. Cunningham completed his residency in internal medicine at the Oregon Health Sciences University. He became a member of the American College of Physicians and board certified in 1997. He has been an active member at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, since 1999 and has served as medical staff president since 2004. Dr. Cunningham has served on several local hospital committees and acts as an associate preceptor for medical students. His interests include the integration of the multidisciplinary medicine rehab approach to the compromised patient to improve outcomes.

Director of Pharmacy
Barlas Buyuktimkin joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in October 2011. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 2005 with a doctorate of pharmacy (PharmD) degree and received his second doctorate (Ph.D.) in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Kansas in 2011. He serves on several local hospital committees and is an adjunct assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Midwestern University. Barlas has six peer-reviewed publications, has authored two book chapters and holds one U.S. patent.
Controller
Lisa joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Scottsdale in April 2007. Lisa graduated from Arizona State University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She was an audit manager for seven years with Deloitte & Touche and has more than 15 years of controller experience.
Area Director of Business Development
Diana rejoined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in October of 2013 and brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience with her. She holds a BS in Recreation Therapy from Emporia State University and also graduated from Maricopa Community College as a licensed LPN. Before returning to Encompass Health, she was the market director for business development for a large long term acute care hospital system within the Phoenix market. Her responsibilities included supervision of multiple sales teams, hospital development for multiple campus and acted as the physician recruiter and physician liaison. We welcome Diana back to her previous role of marketing operations director where she will be responsible for teams of rehabilitation marketing liaisons, designing and implementing referral programs, and customer service strategies for both the East Valley and Scottsdale locations.
Director of Plant Operations
John joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in July 2009. He has more than 30 years of experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance. John obtained his electrical apprenticeship/journeyman in Pennsylvania. His experience includes being a chief building engineer for commercial and high-rise structures in the greater Phoenix area.
Director of Human Resources
Laiza has been part of HealthSouth, formerly Encompass Health since 2016. She brings 15 years of human resources and management experience in healthcare, non-profit, logistics and government. Laiza earned her bachelor’s degree in public management from Northern Arizona University.
Director of Therapy Operations
Pamela began her therapy career with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Scottsdale in January 2012. She started out as a staff occupational therapist and worked her way up to a lead manager before being promoted to her current position of director of therapy. She has a passion working with patients with neurological impairment and her career focus has been in the post-acute/rehabilitation side of therapy. She also helped initiate the stroke support group at Encompass Health Scottsdale. Pamela found her interest in occupational therapy by teaching gymnastics to children with special needs. She achieved her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Midwestern University. She is a proud native of Arizona.
