At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in New Jersey, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, hip fracture, cardiac conditions and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Encompass Health Toms River held an ugly sweater contest where patients got to vote on the winner. Congratulations Marilyn McGuire on winning first prize. Our "silent" caroling crew also went around the hospital to spread some holiday cheer to our patients with homemade cards from a local elementary school and staff.

Employees enjoyed a hot treat on a cold, rainy day. Members of the Employee Engagement Committee passed out hot chocolate on a cart playing joyful music to all staff in the hospital. Our COVID-19 unit enjoyed a treat, as well!

Toms River Staff celebrated Veterans Day by wearing red, white and blue, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning, wore flag stickers, observed a moment of silence at 2:11pm and thanked our veterans in house!

ARC Seminars provided an interdisciplinary course to our occupational therapists, physical therapists and nursing staff on edema management in inpatient rehabilitation. We care for patients who can have various forms of edema from congestive heart failure, neurogenic edema, chronic venous insufficiency issues and more. Edema impacts a patient’s ability to move. This skill set aids our staff in managing edema by providing increased comfort and decreased pain. This full day seminar was coordinated by Denise Loughlin, PT, WCC, CLT., DPT.

Patty Ostaszewski
Patty Ostaszewski, MS, BSN, RN, CRRN, LNHA

Chief Executive Officer

Patty is currently the area chief executive officer for Encompass Health’s Toms River and Tinton Falls hospitals.

Patty is currently the area chief executive officer for Encompass Health’s Toms River and Tinton Falls hospitals. She began her career as the evening nursing supervisor before being promoted to the chief nursing office and then chief executive officer prior to her current role. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in healthcare administration. Patty is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN®) and a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) with many years of administrative, clinical, and operational experience.

While CEO at Toms River, the hospital earned six Disease-Specific Programs certified by The Joint Commission. They also earned recognition as a 2019 Encompass Health Stroke Center of Excellence and in October 2019, received recognition for outstanding performance in clinical and operational excellence.

Patty is an active member of the New Jersey Hospital Association, the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus Foundation Board and a board member of Encompass Health’s National Nursing Leadership Board.

Patty is married to her husband Ted and together they have two daughters and two grandchildren.

Dr. Padma Adusumilli serves as medical director of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formely HealthSouth Toms River, a position she assumed in December 2017.

Dr. Padma Adusumilli serves as medical director of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formely HealthSouth Toms River, a position she assumed in December 2017. Before moving into the role of medical director, Adusumilli who is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, served as a staff physician at the inpatient rehabilitation hospital since 2008. In addition, she previously served at Encompass Health's sister hospital in Tinton Falls from 2002-2008. Altogether, she has more than 25 years’ experience in inpatient rehabilitation. After graduating from Kilpauk Medical College, she completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York where she served as chief resident.

Maryalice has been employed by Encompass Health formerly HealthSouth since 1998.

Maryalice has been employed by Encompass Health formerly HealthSouth since 1998, formerly serving as a staff physical therapist in Encompass Health's Whiting Outpatient Center, and therapy manager for Encompass Health's Jackson Outpatient Center. In 2009, Maryalice assumed the position of therapy manager for Encompass Health's Transitional Care Unit at Community Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in general studies, Master of Science in physical therapy, and doctorate of physical therapy from Misericordia University. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, as well as the New Jersey Physical Therapy Association.

Nick joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River in May 2011.

Nick joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River in May 2011. Most recently he served as a regional director of physical plant of a large, skilled nursing company and brings extensive knowledge in facility and safety management to the hospital. Nick is recognized by the American Hospital Association as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager. He also is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs as a New Jersey building inspector, building sub code official as well as a construction official. Nick is a member of the National Fire Protection Association with over 35 years of fire fighting experience.

Brian is a graduate of the University Of Rhode Island College Of Pharmacy.

Brian is a graduate of the University Of Rhode Island College Of Pharmacy. He began his employment with Encompass Health formerly HealthSouth in August of 1998 as the director of pharmacy. After stepping aside as the director of pharmacy in 2000, Brian expanded his professional background through a number of employment opportunities. Brian returned as the director of pharmacy in 2007. He brought with him experience in sales, sterile compounding and retail pharmacy. In 2009 Brian was asked to be the regional director of pharmacy for the Northeast Region.

Lori has held a variety of professional and leadership positions at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formerly HealthSouth Toms River since 1995.

Lori has held a variety of professional and leadership positions at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formerly HealthSouth Toms River since 1995. She holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Seton Hall University and achieved the designation of Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in 2008. In addition, Lori is licensed in the state of New Jersey as a rehabilitation counselor (LRC) and is certified as a case manager (CCM). Lori is an active member of the community, advocating for individuals with disabilities. She previously served as the treasurer for the New Jersey Statewide Independent Living Council.

Solangie received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pace University in New York, NY.

Solangie has been employed by Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, since 2008. She previously served as a clinical rehabilitation liaison at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tinton Falls. In 2014, Solangie became the senior rehabilitation liaison/marketing coordinator for Encompass Health Toms River. In 2017, she became the business development director for Toms River. Solangie is on the board of directors of both the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce and the Community Medical Center Foundation. Solangie received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pace University in New York, NY.

Previously, she was the chief financial officer of a Southern NJ acute rehabilitation hospital and in the past has served in various managerial roles in several Northern NJ acute care hospitals, as well as healthcare financial consulting roles with various NJ firms. Janet received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Montclair State University and her master'ss in finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Brittany began her career at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River in 2014.

Brittany began her career at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River in 2014. With a history in data management and strategic development through her roles as a sales executive and marketing leader at a national advertising technology company, Brittany brings attention to detail and organizational expertise to this role. She co-developed and launched the hospital’s Patient Experience Program, achieving increased patient satisfaction metrics. In addition, she co-leads the Patient Experience Performance Improvement Committee at Encompass Health Toms River and is a member of the hospital’s Quality Council, Medical Executive Committee, Governing Board and Employee Engagement Committee, and serves as the hospital’s community Stroke Support Group liaison. Brittany also served on our hospital’s Electronic Medical Record implementation leadership team. She looks forward to advancing her education through Quality Improvement certifications. Brittany earned her master’s degree in Business Administration from Georgian Court University following her bachelor’s degree in communication with concentrations in public relations and journalism from Monmouth University.
