At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Arlington and serving the surrounding areas including Waxahachie and Mansfield, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, hip fracture, cardiac conditions and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Our leadership and staff

Ty Taplin
TY TAPLIN

Chief Executive Officer

Ty has worked in a variety of healthcare roles starting his career as a human resources manager then moving into leadership roles such as executive fellow, associate administrator and CEO.

Ty Taplin joined Encompass Health Arlington in May 2018. As CEO, he oversees the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the inpatient rehabilitation hospital. He comes to Encompass Health Arlington after serving as CEO of Kindred Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ty has worked in a variety of healthcare roles starting his career as a human resources manager then moving into leadership roles such as executive fellow, associate administrator and CEO. A graduate of Dallas Baptist University, he completed his master’s degree in business administration. He also holds a second master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.

MARK BUSSELL, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Bussell has been affiliated with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth since 1994. 
Dr. Bussell has been affiliated with Encompass Health City View, formerly HealthSouth City View since 1994. He earned a medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed an internship at the Swedish Covenant Hospital and a residency at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago-McGaw Medical Center. Dr. Bussell is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and is a member of American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Texas Medical Association, Tarrant County Medical Society and American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Director of Facilities Management/ Safety Officer

Mark is a certified healthcare facilities manager with an extensive background in facility management.

Mark is responsible for the physical environment at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington. His duties include regulatory compliance for TJC/CMS/TDH and OSHA as well as the day-to-day operations of the maintenance, environmental and dietary departments. Mark is a Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager with an extensive background in facility management. He is an active member of TAHFM, ASHE, NFPA, FEMA and actively participates in the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council.

Katherine joined the team as chief financial officer in June 2008.

Katherine joined the team as chief financial officer in June 2008. She is a certified public accountant and has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southwestern Adventist University. Katherine has nearly 20 years of experience in healthcare finance and administration.

BARBARA EATON

Director of Case Management

Barbara has been with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, since September 1995.

Barbara has been with Encompass Health since September 1995.  She started in Midland as a case manager, then was promoted to director of case management. She also served as the regional case management trainer for the Southwest region. She recently relocated to Arlington from Encompass Health’s Round Rock hospital location and has been at Encompass Health Arlington since March 2019.

Jennifer serves as director of therapy operations at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington.

Jennifer serves as director of therapy operations at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington. Prior to joining the Encompass Health team, she was a multi-site director of rehabilitation for Peoplefirst Rehab, which is a division of Kindred Healthcare. Before moving to Texas, Jennifer worked as an occupational therapist at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma on both their rehabilitation and behavioral health units. She graduated from Cameron University in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in biology and then from Texas Woman’s University in 2001 with a master's degree in occupational therapy.

With almost 20 years of human resources experience specifically in the healthcare setting.

Erin joined Encompass as the director of human resources in 2019. With almost 20 years of human resources experience specifically in the healthcare setting. Erin believes in providing care and support to our team of professionals so they can take the best care of our patients. Erin holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and an MBA from Texas Woman’s University, and is dually certified in human resources by the Society of Human Resource Management and the Human Resource Certification Institute. She has previously served on the board of directors of the Dallas Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association and is bilingual in Spanish.

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and has been with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth since 2000. Carolyn has more than 25 years of hospital and long-term care pharmacy experience as a clinician, consultant, manager, educator, regulator and author.

Sharon Obami
SHARON OBAMI

Chief Nursing Officer

Sharon served as the nurse manager at Encompass Health Richardson for about two years before transitioning to the CNO position.

Sharon Obami joined Encompass Health Arlington in July 2018. As CNO, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the nursing department as well as ensure quality care is provided to patients at the physical inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Sharon served as the nurse manager at Encompass Health Richardson for about two years before transitioning to the CNO position. Sharon Obami started her career as a staff nurse on a med/surg unit at Medical Center Hospital a 400+ bed Level II trauma center in Odessa, Texas. Sharon also served as a charge nurse on the med/surg unit and attained her certification in med/surg nursing. Additionally, Sharon is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse. A graduate of Lubbock Christian University, she completed her master’s degree in nursing. Sharon earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Business Development Director

Rachel joined Encompass Health in 2012 at the City View hospital location and was promoted to business development director of Arlington in October 2017.

Rachel joined Encompass Health in 2012 at the City View hospital location and was promoted to business development director of Arlington in October 2017. She has 10 years’ experience in sales, operations and leadership specific to healthcare. In her current role she is responsible for the rehab liaison marketing team, as well as admissions. Her team is devoted to educating the community about the benefits of inpatient rehabilitation and is passionate about helping patients reach their full potential.
