At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Franklin and serving the greater Nashville area, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, trauma, cardiac conditions and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Scott Peterson, MPA, is the chief executive officer. He comes to Encompass Health Franklin from nearby Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital where he has served as associate administrator since 2013. Scott has served 10 of his 14 years of healthcare experience with Encompass Health. He earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degrees from Cornell University and a graduate certificate in health policy and management from the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service.
Dr. Craig joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Franklin, after serving as the medical director of Van Matre Rehabilitation Hospital in Rockford, Illinois, for 11 years. A magna cum laude graduate of Loyola University, he completed his medical studies at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Craig completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at Marionjoy Rehabilitation Hospital-Clinics. He is board certified in PM&R and pain medicine. Dr. Craig is a two-time recipient of the HealthSouth Medical Director of the Year Award.
Scott Craig, M.D. is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Business Development Director
Linda has been with Encompass Health since 2014. She has held positions in case management and as a top producing rehab liaison in the Cincinnati office. She recently relocated to the Franklin area to assume the position of business development director of Encompass Health Franklin. Linda has an extensive background in healthcare sales and marketing as a pharmaceutical sales regional trainer, President’s Club winner as well as a Home Health Care Sales Growth winner of the year. Linda received an undergraduate degree in psychology and biology and her master’s degree from Boston College where she interned with Massachusetts General Hospital, a Harvard affiliated major medical center. Linda has served her community in the past as Vice Mayor and has enjoyed coaching youth sports.
Director of Therapy Operations
Sheila Davy, OTR/L, has been with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, since 1997. Prior to accepting the role of director of therapy operations at Encompass Health Franklin, she worked as a member of the therapy and managerial team with Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation. Her experience spans across a variety of patient experiences and diagnoses. Sheila has been involved in program development and treatment of the neurologically impaired patient with her passion being stroke care and education. She is an advocate for quality patient care, patient satisfaction and professional development of staff. Originally from New Orleans, Sheila holds degrees in business administration from Baylor University and occupational therapy from Tennessee State University. She calls Franklin, Tennessee, her new southern home and is proud to serve the residents of the Franklin community.
Patricia F. Huffman, CPA, MBA, joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, in October 2015. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Huffman worked as corporate controller with Wellmont Health System. She has held controller and audit positions with media and financial organizations. Also, she was audit manager for Price Waterhouse from 1985 to 1993. She has been active in the community that includes serving in leadership positions a of local children’s museum, among others. She served as adjunct professor in corporate finance and accounting at Milligan College and was recognized as a Leader in Christian Service. Tricia holds an accounting degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in business administration from Milligan College. She has two grown sons in college and lives in Franklin, Tennessee, with her husband.
Director of Case Management
Lacey began her career with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, in December 2015. She has a variety of experience in the healthcare field including skilled nursing, skilled home health care, and in-home private care services. Lacey earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from Middle Tennessee State University. She became licensed in her field as LMSW in 2011. Lacey became a Certified Case Manager (CCM) in 2016 from the Commission for Case Manager Certification. She serves as the 2017 Secretary of Mid Cumberland Council of Healthcare Social Workers.
Human Resources Director
Dawn joined the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, team in September 2015. Prior to joining the Franklin team, Dawn began her Encompass Health career as the director of human resources in Tucson, Arizona, from 2007-2010. She has more than 14 years of experience in the human resources field with 11 of those years in the healthcare industry. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resource management from Boise State University. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and the Middle Tennessee Society of Human Resources organizations.
Director of Pharmacy
Michael brings more than 12 years of pharmacy management experience to the director of pharmacy position. During this time he has practiced in all facets of pharmaceutical care including inpatient, long-term care, community and home infusion settings. He began his undergraduate studies at Middle Tennessee State University and completed his doctor of pharmacy degree from The University of Tennessee-Memphis in 2003. Outside of his professional life, Michael enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two boys.
Director of Plant Operations
Tim brings more than 25 years of healthcare experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin. Tim grew up in Melbourne Beach, Florida and began a career in materials management when he entered healthcare in 1981 after a tour in the U.S. Navy. He joined the rehabilitation sector in 1989. Tim has worked in rehabilitation hospitals in Florida, Texas, California and Tennessee with progressive levels of responsibility.
Chief Nursing Officer
Valerie joined the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, in October 2015 as its first chief nursing officer. She began her nursing career in 1994 and has held progressively responsible leadership positions in acute care and rehabilitation settings. Valerie began her Encompass Health career in 2010 as the Nursing Manager at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital in Nashville. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse® (CRRN) and a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. Her interests lie in staff development and fall prevention.
Director of Quality and Risk
Cheryl joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin, formerly HealthSouth Franklin, in 2015, bringing with her more than 35 years of nursing experience including the neurological rehabilitation, medical/surgical and maternal-child clinical areas. She has held various leadership positions overseeing medical/surgical, obstetrical/neonatal and acute care education departments. As a tenured assistant professor of nursing at Motlow State Community College, she was recognized for three consecutive years as a Faculty Excellence Award finalist. Cheryl has been active in the Tennessee Nurses Association, serving several years as the District 8 president as well as a member of the Continuing Education Review Committee. She began her nursing career as a licensed practical nurse, and went on to earn her associate’s degree in nursing from Motlow State Community College, and her bachelor’s degree of science and master’s degree of Science in nursing administration from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is married and has three grown children and five grandchildren.
