Encompass Health Franklin breaks ground on expansion project

Sept. 19, 2025 — This week, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin broke ground on a 12-month expansion project. The project will add 20 private patient rooms and a dialysis suite to the hospital.

“This is an exciting time for Encompass Health Franklin,” said Matthew Pearson, chief executive officer of the inpatient rehabilitation hospital. “This project is also very important for the Franklin community, as it expands our ability to meet the needs of more patients.”

Encompass Health Franklin currently has 40 patient beds. The new unit of patient rooms will bring the hospital to a total of 60 beds. Pearson says the need for rehabilitative services is growing.

“We often times have a waiting list of patients wanting and needing our care,” said Pearson. “This expansion will certainly alleviate some of the post-acute care burden we see on a daily basis.”

The dialysis suite will be a bonus, as well. Onsite dialysis allows patients the comfort and ease of receiving treatments at Encompass Health Franklin rather than leaving the hospital to receive the services elsewhere.

“Our patients are involved in intensive therapy for a minimum of three hours per day,” said Pearson. “Not having to schedule their therapy sessions around leaving the hospital for dialysis treatments makes a big difference in a patient’s day.”

The expansion also means more health care jobs for the Franklin area. The hospital anticipates hiring additional clinical and support staff to meet the needs of the added patients. The new rooms and dialysis suite are expected to open in October 2026.
