August 13, 2025 – Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Greenville is expanding to meet the growing need for rehabilitation care. A major construction project will begin at the hospital in September and is expected to take one year to complete.
Encompass Health Greenville will add 40 patient beds bringing capacity to 80 beds. The addition also includes four dayrooms, one nurse station, a new family courtyard with walking paths and benches, as well as an expansion to the existing therapy gym and enhancements to the existing therapy courtyard. The therapy courtyard will be outfitted with a therapy pavilion, sunshades and walking paths with therapy surfaces.
Joshua Trout, chief executive officer of Encompass Health Greenville, spoke with The Post and Courier Greenville about the expansion.
“Since the hospital first opened in 2021, it has been regularly full with a waitlist fluctuating between 30-50 people,” Trout told The Post and Courier Greenville. “Once complete, the hospital expects to add 80-90 jobs to its existing 175 employees.”
Chris Daughtry, director of therapy operations at Encompass Health Greenville, said that the growing population has contributed to the need for post-acute rehabilitation care following a life-changing illness or injury.
“The Baby Boomer generation is aging into needing more health care,” Daughtry told the newspaper. “It has caused growth of inpatient rehab hospitals across the country, and a lot of your aging population is moving into areas of the Southeast, which is also creating that growth opportunity.”
