CHI St. Vincent Rehab Hospital opens new mobility courtyard - The Sentinel-Record
Dec. 15, 2025 — On Tuesday morning, CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Rehabilitation Hospital held a ribbon-cutting for its new mobility courtyard. The courtyard is a 10,000-square-foot outdoor space offering patients a safe place to partake in mobility therapy. The courtyard includes elements such as steps, ramps, asphalt, brick and other pathways patients will encounter after leaving the hospital.
CHI St. Vincent Rehabilitation Hospital CEO Lesalee Chilcote told The Sentinel-Record, “We're very excited about the opportunities [the mobility courtyard] is going to give our therapists and our patients, and the ability to practice in real-world settings.”
Although the courtyard was a significant investment, the hospital understands the importance of fresh air, sunshine and green spaces in patient recovery. This is the first phase of the courtyard. In the spring, the hospital plans to add picnic tables, gardening beds and a mailbox to continue helping patients practice real-life scenarios.
“Recovery is not about just medicine,” said Chilcote. “It's also about promoting movement, restoring confidence and regaining function.”
Chilcote added that the courtyard will also serve as a space for staff to recharge, eat lunch and take a fresh breath.
