At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fredericksburg, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Fredericksburg, we serve patients in the Spotsylvania, Stafford, Woodbridge and Culpepper areas as a leading provider of inpatient oncology rehabilitation and inpatient rehabilitation for stroke and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
David Cashwell joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Fredericksburg in June 2017, providing 15 years of executive healthcare leadership experience in acute care hospitals and, most recently, at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Richmond. A North Carolina native, David attended The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He earned his master’s degree in health administration in 2005 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia.
As medical director of Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth Fredericksburg, Dr. Graham is responsible for overseeing the hospital’s clinical staff and rehabilitative programs. As a board-certified physical medical and rehabilitation physician, Dr. Graham has many years of medical leadership experience working in a variety of healthcare settings. He received his doctor of medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his residency training with the University of Illinois Hospital and Affiliated Clinics in Chicago. He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Physicians for Social Responsibility.
Area Director of Plant Operations
Charles brings 20 years’ experience in acute care hospital experience to Fredericksburg. He joined the Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Fredericksburg team in August 2014 after relocating from HealthSouth Mountainview Hospital in Morgantown WV. He has served as the safety committee chairperson for HealthSouth for the last four years. He comes to us with experience with emergency management and represents HealthSouth with local emergency preparedness groups. Charles is a native of California where he ran a successful landscape business for 15 years.
Business Development Director
Adam Dennison joined Encompass Health Fredericksburg in December 2018. Previously, he served as a clinical rehabilitation liaison at our Northern Virginia hospital for two years. Adam provides more than a decade of leadership and clinical experience as a chiropractor before joining Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth. Adam is a native of Woodbridge, Va and is an alumni of Averett University in Danville, Va. where he obtained his biomedical science degree prior to attending Palmer Chiropractic College of Florida in Port Orange, Fla.
Director of Therapy Operations
Robin has been a practicing physical therapist since 1981 and has worked in an inpatient rehabilitation setting since 1982. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology from the Pennsylvania State University and went on to study physical therapy at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her master's degree in health science from the University of Indianapolis. Robin is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Felix Fianko joined HealthSouth Fredericksburg from Walgreens pharmacy in April 2015 where he exceled as a staff pharmacist in the community setting. A native of Ghana West Africa, he attended the University of Science and Technology and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in renewable natural resource management in 1997. After moving to the United States, he pursued and earned a post baccalaureate certificate in health sciences at the Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009 and subsequently a doctorate degree in pharmacy at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Worcester Massachusetts in 2014. His passion and experiences for patient care began at a young age in Ghana where he grew up in the University Hospital system where his father worked as a senior laboratory technologist. His leadership qualities and skills earned him a place on the Fredericksburg hospital leadership team in 2017. Felix’s areas of interest include ambulatory care, medication therapy management, and antimicrobial stewardship. Felix is currently a member of Virginia Society of Hospital Pharmacist and currently pursuing SIDP certification in Antimicrobial Stewardship.
Director of Health Information Management/Privacy Officer
Kathy joined Encompass Health Fredericksburg, formerly HealthSouth Fredericksburg, in August 2012, bringing more than 15 years of healthcare experience in billing, coding, auditing, denials management and medical record compliance. Kathy serves as the hospital’s medical records director, HIPAA officer and as a Mid-Atlantic HIMS regional representative. Kathy is a resource in assisting other Encompass Health hospitals with various needs and leads our team in ensuring completeness of health records and privacy of protected health information.
Desiree Kardashian is controller at the Encompass Health Fredericksburg. Desiree has spent the majority of her career in healthcare including roles as a fixed asset manager, accounting manager, controller and chief financial officer. During her career, Desiree has been involved in multiple projects and programs including the roll out of HIPAA, several computer conversions, to being the first ISO accredited lab where she learned more about the medical industry. In addition to managing growing expenses and reductions in reimbursements, she helped reduce costs and accounts receivable which improved cash flows. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and holds a master’s degree in business administration.
Director of Quality
Bryana brings more than 10 years of clinical and management experience to Encompass Health formerly HealthSouth, Fredericksburg. She joined the Encompass Health Fredericksburg team in May 2016 as the patient standards assessment coordinator and has been in the role of director of quality and risk since January 2018. Prior to her career with Encompass Health, she worked in critical care and risk management within the acute care setting. She received her Master of Science in nursing administration and Bachelor of Science in nursing from Liberty University. She became a certified professional in patient safety in June 2015 and has maintained this certification. Her passion is promoting a just culture for staff to feel comfortable speaking up to ensure the highest quality of care is provided to patients.
Director of Care Management
Karen brings 18 years of case management experience to Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Rehabilitation Hospital of Fredericksburg. Prior to joining HealthSouth, she served as a case manager/operations manager for the department of care management at Mary Washington Hospital. She began her career at Mary Washington Hospital as a home health nurse. Karen received a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing administration both from George Mason University. She is an Accredited Case Manager and Board Certified Case Manager.
Director of Human Resources
Anthanita Warner joined our team in April 2019. Previously she worked for a large nonprofit continuing care retirement and rehabilitation community as an area human resources director and has worked in healthcare human resources for more than 16 years. Her professional experience includes employee relations, policy-planning, change management, benefits and recruitment. Anthanita has established experience in addressing and implementing strategic plans for talent acquisition, retention and succession planning with a special focus on: healthcare regulatory compliance, team building, risk management, training and mentoring, and relationship building management. Anthanita holds her Bachelor of Science degree in human resources management from Wilmington University, Del.. Anthanita began her healthcare career more than 25 years ago as a medical assistant.
Patient Assessment Standards Coordinator
Rachel has been a nurse for 22 years. She has worked in an inpatient rehabilitation setting for more than four years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University. Rachel is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse and is UDSmr IRF PPS certified.
