Encompass Health’s Dr. Lisa Charbonneau appointed to American Stroke Association Advisory Committee

Nov. 5, 2025 - Encompass Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Elissa “Lisa” Charbonneau has been appointed to the national American Stroke Association (ASA) Advisory Committee, which is comprised of a mixture of laymen and medical volunteers with stroke expertise. In this important role, Dr. Charbonneau advises the ASA on strategic planning, program development and messaging for stroke care. She also helps to identify priorities, supports collaboration between staff and volunteers and advocates for stroke-related issues across the American Heart Association (AHA) Additionally, she serves as a vital resource for stroke information, reports ASA activities to AHA leadership annually, and ensures risks are addressed in planning.

At Encompass Health, Dr. Charbonneau oversees medical operations, quality and patient care for all hospitals. She earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York Institute of Technology, a master's degree in natural sciences and epidemiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a bachelor's degree from Cornell University. She is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Osteopathic Board of Rehabilitation Medicine.

An active thought leader, Dr. Charbonneau has presented on topics such as clinical leadership, post-acute care, patient-centered data models, opioid reductionand post-COVID care. She has been recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives and Women We Admire’s Top 50 Women Chief Medical Officers.

Appointments to the ASA Advisory Committee are made by the AHA president and chairperson of the board of directors. Dr. Charbonneau will serve until June 30, 2026, with eligibility for reappointment for two additional one-year terms.

Encompass Health is a national supporter of the ASA and its “Together to End Stroke” initiative. As part of this partnership, Encompass Health collaborates with the AHA/ASA to develop educational tools for health care professionals, patients and caregivers related to stroke care.
