BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 17, 2025 – Encompass Health is pleased to announce Mathew “Mat” Gooch as president of the Company’s Northeast region. The Northeast region currently includes 26 post-acute, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals across 10 states with more than 6,700 employees.
“I am honored to be named president of Encompass Health’s Northeast region,” said Gooch. “This region is growing rapidly with three hospitals opening in 2026, so this is an exciting time for us. I look forward to leading the dedicated hospital teams who provide high-quality rehabilitative care to our patients.”
Gooch brings more than 20 years of health care management experience to his new role, including 11 years with Encompass Health. He began with the Company as CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown in Delaware. In 2024, Gooch was named the Northeast region’s vice president of operations.
“Mat has demonstrated success in all areas of hospital operations and development as well as helping our hospitals to deliver excellent clinical results for the patients that we serve,” said Pat Tuer, chief operating officer of Encompass Health. “I know he will continue to achieve great outcomes as president of the Northeast region.”
Gooch received his master’s degree in health care administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Tennessee.
Gooch assumes the Northeast regional president position from Tuer, who was named the Company’s chief operating officer in April. Encompass Health’s Northeast region includes the cities of Cincinnati and Toledo, Ohio; Erie and Reading, Pennsylvania; Johnston, Rhode Island; Toms River and Tinton Falls, New Jersey; Braintree, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; and Nashville, Tennessee. Encompass Health’s first hospital in the state of Connecticut, located in Danbury, is expected to open to patients this month — expanding the Northeast region’s footprint to 27 hospitals across 11 states.
