Nov. 17, 2025 — Encompass Health has been named a recipient of the 2025 NRC Health Excellence in Patient Experience Award, placing it among the top three large health systems nationwide recognized for delivering outstanding care.
The award, presented annually by NRC Health, honors organizations that demonstrate an unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. Winners are selected based on real-time patient feedback, specifically whether patients would recommend the provider.
Encompass Health's recognition comes as it marks the 15th anniversary of its CPR program, a patient experience initiative grounded in Comfort, Professionalism and Respect. The program is embedded across all 172 hospitals in the Company's network and has become a cornerstone of its care philosophy.
“Central to supporting our patients in returning to their lives — to the things that mean the most to them — is not only our excellent clinical care, but the way it is delivered,” said National Director of Quality Mary Ellen DeBardeleben. “How we encourage our patients, how we identify with them as people worthy of our respect, our expertise, and our understanding — this is as integral to our care as the sophisticated technology and specialized clinical care we offer.”
The CPR program aligns hospital staff, leadership and regional teams around a shared standard for patient experience, from admission to discharge. This approach has led to higher rates of patients returning home rather than transitioning to other care settings and stronger employee engagement compared to industry averages.
NRC Health evaluates facilities across several categories, including small, medium and large health systems, hospitals, pediatric centers and clinics. Encompass Health's award was based on patient ratings collected between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. Encompass Health was also awarded Excellence in Transparency award by NRC in 2020.
