Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Alfred Santos joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia, formerly HealthSouth, as the new chief executive officer in August 2016. Al previously served seven years as the chief executive officer of Lincoln County Medical Center. He is a retired U.S. Army Medical Service Corps officer and has more than 40 years management and broad leadership experience in the healthcare industry as a chief operating officer, regional director of operations and senior director of integrated health services operations. His experience includes managing and leading facilities in Seoul, South Korea, Arizona, Alabama, Ohio, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Texas, Washington D.C., and Florida including hospitals, clinics, service centers and health insurance plans. He is Six Sigma black belt trained in quality and process improvement and received a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of California, Berkeley and a master's degree in healthcare administration from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Dr. Samdani was appointed as medical director at Encompass Health Northern Virginia, formerly HealthSouth, in 2011 and opened a private practice at the same location. His philosophy of service to the patient along with the support of a great rehabilitation team creates excellence in both patient care and outcomes. In 2005, Dr. Samdani started working as medical director of the inpatient rehabilitation facility at Henrico Doctors Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Samdani is a board certified physiatrist. He graduated from Kurnool Medical College, India, in 1988 in the top ten of his class. Dr. Samdani has completed a general surgery residence and received a master's degree in surgery. He moved to the United States in 1998 and worked as a house staff (PGY-1) in Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He enrolled in the physical medicine and rehabilitation residency program at the SUNY at Stony Brook University in New York. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medical Society of State of New York and Richmond Academy of Medicine.

George has more than 30 years of experience in accounting, primarily as a controller for various government contractors. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, a MBA degree from Babson College and is a certified public accountant.

Director of Therapy Operations
Vidhya joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in June 2010 when the hospital opened and served in various positions. After serving as a manager, she was promoted as director of therapy operations. Vidhya’s clinical background includes a doctorate degree in physical therapy from Shenandoah University and more than 16 years of experience as a physical therapist. She is certified in neuro-developmental techniques, utilized in treating brain related impairments. She takes pride in leading a team of exceptional therapists who strive for excellence while focusing on restoring function and promoting safety through evidence-based practice. Vidhya is an avid gardener and a mother of two boys.
Plant operations director
Tom joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia after 22 years in multiple locations for different companies which include State of Wisconsin buildings and grounds support, Cornerstone Hospital plant operations director and Goodwin House plant operations director. Tom has been with Encompass Health for 5 years in two locations, Encompass Health Northern Virginia and Encompass Health Petersburg. Tom takes his responsibility for the safety of the staff, patients and visitors seriously, while ensuring the facility is operating smoothly to provide a safe and comfortable environment. In his role, he also ensures the life safety components of the facility are operational and compliant.
Director Health Information Management
Gabe joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in May of 2012 as a rehab therapy tech. In 2016, he transitioned to the role of supervisor of health information management after receiving a master’s degree in health informatics administration. In 2018, he obtained an RHIA certification and in 2019, transitioned to the role of director of health information management and hospital HIPAA officer where he is responsible for the privacy and security of protected health information. Gabe also serves as the President of the District of Columbia Health Information Management Association (DCHIMA) where he helps to serve HIM professional in the DMV area.
Senior Human Resources Director
Veronica is a human resource professional with over 15 years of experience working in the healthcare, scientific research, technology, and consulting industries. She earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in management from American Public University, a master’s certificate in human resources management from Villanova University, and she is a certified senior professional in human resources (SPHR) and a society for human resource management senior certified professional (SHRM-SCP).
Director of Quality & Risk
Tina North-Henderson, RN, BSN served as a nurse manager at Encompass Health Northern Virginia for two years before transitioning into her role as the director of quality & risk. She is passionate about improving the quality of care for our patients and keeping our team safe. She represents the hospital in the capacity of a regional STOP2 Instructor and is committed to safe patient mobility. Sharing knowledge through coaching and teaching are some of her favorite things to do. Tina is actively involved in the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and has presented project posters in past years. Prior to working in rehabilitation, Tina worked as a clinical operations manager for the largest multi-specialty outpatient ambulatory care practice in Northern Virginia where she oversaw operations at four locations. When not at work, Tina can be found spending time and traveling with her husband and grown children.

Aman began her Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, career as a senior case manager in 2015 and transitioned into the role of director of case management in 2016. She has experience in marketing and strategic planning in the healthcare sector. She earned a bachelor’s degree in honors school in English and a MBA degree from India. She has a second master’s degree in health systems management (executive management) from George Mason University, Fairfax, Va.

Joseph joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia, formerly HealthSouth, in 2013 as part of nursing administration. In 2015, he transitioned to the role of director of quality and risk management, where he was responsible for maintaining accreditation readiness, facilitation of performance improvement programs, monitoring quality outcomes and addressing patient concerns. As the head of the nursing department, Joseph’s daily focus is to ensure that every patient at Encompass Health Northern Virginia has a positive and memorable nursing experience. Joseph holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing; master’s degrees in health and business administration, and the achievement of being a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse.
