At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Reading, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Serving the city of Reading and Berks and surrounding counties, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation after stroke, brain injury, hip fracture and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Shelby Olind joined the team at Encompass Health Reading in 2019. She brings more than 15 years of leading high performance hospitals. Shelby has served locally, statewide and nationally on legislative advocacy boards to improve access and quality of care. She has a strong background in strategic planning, quality improvement initiatives, operations and culture change. Prior to joining Encompass Health Reading, Shelby worked for Banner Health as CEO for two critical access hospitals in Wyoming.
Dr. McNeill joined the medical staff at Encompass Health Reading, in 2016. He had attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internship at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Delaware County and Southwest Philadelphia where he was awarded the medical center’s top intern award. He then began his training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at the University of Maryland Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. There he served as chief resident of the program and was awarded the Gerald B. Felsenthal Resident excellence award. He is a native of northeastern Pennsylvania but has lived in New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.
Director of Therapy Operations
Terry brings 22 years of healthcare experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Reading, formerly HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital. He assumed increasing responsibilities in hospital operations over the last 10 years serving as director of rehabilitation services. Terry received his bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Temple University and his master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare systems from Drexel University.
Director of Quality and Risk
Holly joined the team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Reading in August of 2020. A Pennsylvania native, she brings more than 20 years of experience in acute inpatient rehabilitation from varied clinical and leadership roles across her career. Holly received her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from the Medical College of Georgia, and is a certified aging in place specialist.
Jason brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Reading. formerly HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital. Jason has served as Encompass Health Reading’s controller for more than seven years. Jason graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in health policy and administration.
Case Management Director
Kristin joined the Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, team in 2016 as the Case Management Director. She brings more than 17 years of healthcare experience including the areas of skilled nursing; rehabilitation; behavioral health and acute care. Kristin received a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University; master’s degree in social work from Rutgers University and a Black Belt Certification in Lean Six Sigma from Chip Caldwell and Associates.
