Located in Humble, we serve the greater Houston area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation stroke, brain injury, oncology and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Committed to setting the standard in post-acute care, our hospital holds Joint Commission disease-specific care certifications in hip fracture rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, brain injury rehabilitation and oncology rehabilitation.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Dr. Mathurin brings more than 20 years of experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Humble, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Humble. He received his education at the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez; SUNY Health Center at Brooklyn, New York; Columbia University – Harlem Hospital and Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, New Jersey. Dr. Mathurin is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Emile Mathurin, Jr., MD is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Director of Therapy Operations
Debbie brings twelve years of experience to the role of director of therapy operations. She joined Encompass Health in 1999 and achieved multiple leadership roles. Debbie has additional experience working in The Texas Medical Center and with Seton Medical Hospital Hayes. A graduate of Texas Woman's University with a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy, she now works to foster an environment of caring dedication to patients seeking rehabilitative care.
Human Resources Director
Christy brings more than 15 years of human resources experience to the leadership team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Humble, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Humble. She has an extensive background in human resource management with an expertise in employee relations. Christy has been a member of the HealthSouth team since 2007.
Chief Nursing Officer
Christie comes to Encompass Health Humble, formerly HealthSouth Humble with more than fifteen years of experience in healthcare. She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in business administration with a specialization in health care management. Christie is a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ) and she is a trained Texas examiner with in-depth knowledge and experience with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria. As chief nursing officer for Encompass Health Humble, she utilizes her transformational leadership skills to influence the hospital’s strategic direction and ensures that nursing’s goals and initiatives are aligned to advance organizational success. Christie has also held other clinical and administrative leadership positions in acute care settings within the Texas Medical Center (TMC). She is currently an active member of the National Association of Healthcare Quality where she has served on the education planning committee and Texas Gulf Coast Association for Healthcare Quality, serving on the board as the nurse planner.
Director of Plant Operations
Leroy, a Hawaii native, joined Encompass Health in December 1989 and has served in the plant operations department for 22 years. He has the distinguished experience of serving the US Navy. Leroy is a former student of both North Shore and New Caney and studied AC&R within the North Harris Community College System.
Director of Quality and Risk
Lisa brings ten years of Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth clinical liaison experience to the role of director of quality and risk management. In addition to her many accomplishments with Encompass Health, Lisa also brings the discipline and attention to detail gained from twenty one years of service in The United States Army, finishing that career as sergeant first class. Lisa has experience in ICU and trauma medicine as well as a successful record in leadership roles. It is with this combination of experience and dedication to patients and staff education, that Lisa looks forward to continuous improvements in patient care and quality.
Sheila has been with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth since 2000 and with Encompass Health in Humble since 2010. She brings more than 10 years of hospital accounting experience. Sheila earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Phoenix.
Director of Pharmacy
Curtis has been with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth since 1990 and brings more than 30 years experience in pharmacy. Throughout his career he has enjoyed various awards and recognitions from institutions such as Texas Southern University, Humble Independent School District and Veterans Administration Hospital to name a few. He is very active with various pharmacy industry associations and leadership programs.
Director of Case Management
Sharon brings more than 20 years of experience to the case management department at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth. She has a diverse background in case management with director level experience in dialysis and Medicare Advantage insurance plans. Sharon is a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas.
