At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Littleton, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Denver, we serve the Denver area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, Parkinson’s disease, trauma and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Liz Freudenberg joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Littleton, formerly HealthSouth Littleton, in March 2013 as the controller. She served in this role until February 2021, when she was named to the CEO position. She received her bachelor's degree in business administration and her master's degree of accountancy from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She is a certified public accountant in the state of Colorado. Liz is married with two daughters and is a Colorado native.
Dr. Miller is the medical director of Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, Littleton. He received his doctorate in 2011 from the Midwestern University in Glendale, Ariz. having more than six years of diverse experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital affiliated with Chicago Medical School and the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Wheaton, Ill. Dr. Miller is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation through the ABPMR. He is married with a son and a Colorado native.
Dr. Miller is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Therapy Operations
Lisa has been a practicing physical therapist for more than 16 years and has more than 14 years of leadership experience in rehabilitation. In 2001, she was awarded her master’s degree in physical therapy at Ohio University where she also received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1998 with a minor in health sciences. Lisa has extensive knowledge in long term care, home health and has operated in positions at both local and regional levels. Her areas of expertise include geriatrics and vestibular rehabilitation. She lives in Highlands Ranch, Colo. with her husband, daughter, dog and cat. Lisa enjoys running in her spare time.
Director of Case Management
Erin, the director of case management, began her rehabilitation career five years ago. Prior to healthcare, she assisted young families working through transition and crisis. She received her Bachelor of Science in human development and family studies from Colorado State University. She attended the University of New England, while working full-time and obtained her master’s degree in social work in 2014. Her passion is advocacy and assisting patients and families navigate through challenging times. Erin is a Colorado native from Lakewood. She is married with one daughter and a goldendoodle.
Director of Human Resources
Stephanie has more than two decades of diverse, progressive and multi-state experience in human resources. She earned an undergraduate degree in human rehabilitative services with a minor in community health from the University of Northern Colorado and a graduate degree in education from Colorado State University. Stephanie is a Colorado native who grew up in Littleton and now resides in the City of Denver with her husband, three cats and a dog.
Director of Quality & Risk Management
Britanie joined the Encompass Health Littleton team in 2015. She received her Bachelor of Arts with distinction in public health from the University of Colorado Denver where she also served as a research assistant in the department of health and behavioral sciences, concentrating on gerontology and building social capital. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in healthcare administration at Colorado State University. Britanie is a Colorado native who enjoys spending time with her family and her Australian shepherd.
Program Medical Director
Dr. Matthew Marrington is a program medical director at Encompass Health in Littleton, Colorado. He earned his doctorate from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. After medical school, he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University Hospitals Health System, a program dually accredited by the ABPMR and AOBPMR, based out of Cleveland, OH. Dr. Marrington specializes in general rehabilitation medicine, non-interventional pain management and electrodiagnostic medicine. Additionally, he has training in osteopathic manipulation and integrative medicine. Dr. Marrington leads an active lifestyle and enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, running, swimming and fishing.
Dr. Marrington is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Plant Operations
Adam began his career with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, in June of 2016 as the environmental services manager in Evansville, Indiana. He and his family relocated to Denver, Colorado in August 2018 to serve as director of plant operations in Littleton. Adam has a degree in industrial maintenance and over twelve years’ experience. He and his wife have one son and one daughter.
Chief Nursing Officer
John joined Encompass Health in 2017 as part of the Developing Future Chief Nursing Officer program. Originally from Carlsbad, New Mexico, John obtained a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of New Mexico. In 2004 he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Arizona State University. John’s nursing experience includes several major components of the healthcare continuum including critical care, acute care and post-acute care. He has a passion for post-acute services, specifically acute rehabilitation; and enjoys sharing his background in business, nursing and leadership as a contribution to positive patient outcomes.
Director of Pharmacy
Heather received her pharmacy doctorate in 2011 from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, New York. She then completed her first year of residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a pharmacotherapy specialty residency at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Her experience includes practicing and leading in various settings including ambulatory care, industry, hospital, retail pharmacy and clinical research. Heather is board certified as a pharmacotherapy specialist and geriatric pharmacist through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Brendan Polun is an associate medical director at HealthSouth Littleton. He received his doctorate from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology in 2011 having over 6 years of diverse experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital affiliated with Chicago Medical School and the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Wheaton, Ill. Dr. Polun is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation through the ABPMR. He is married with a son and is originally from Baltimore, Md. Dr. Polun has a passion for healthy living with the ability to help patients gain their independence.

Business Development Director
Kathleen has over 20 years of diverse multi-state experience in healthcare business development and marketing within the sectors of pharmaceuticals, skilled nursing, long term acute care, home health and hospice. She earned an undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in biology from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Originally from New York, Kathleen relocated to Colorado in 2009 with her son.
