Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute renews Joint Commission accreditation

Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute staff celebrate The Joint Commission recertification achievement

Oct. 15, 2026 – Patients receiving care at Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute can be confident they are receiving treatment that meets nationally recognized quality and safety standards. The hospital recently earned renewed Hospital Accreditation from Joint Commission, recognizing its commitment to high-quality care and positive patient outcomes. The accreditation recognizes the hospital's commitment to patient safety, a positive patient experience and strong rehabilitation outcomes.

"Patients and families trust us during some of the most important moments of their recovery journey," said Robert Mewes, hospital CEO. "Renewed accreditation from Joint Commission reflects our commitment to providing safe, high-quality care and helping every patient achieve the best possible outcome."

The recent accreditation survey also highlighted the hospital's internal dialysis program. During the hospital's previous survey in 2023, the program was in its early stages. This year, surveyors reviewed three years of program data and found no areas requiring improvement. The results reflect the hospital's continued focus on quality, safety and clinical excellence.

"Achieving Hospital Accreditation from Joint Commission is more than a milestone," said Alyssa Jensen, director of quality and risk management. "It reflects our daily commitment to quality and safety for our patients, our team and our community. We are honored to earn Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® as a symbol of confidence and trust in our organization."

In addition to its Hospital Accreditation, the hospital maintains Joint Commission Certificates of Distinction in Amputee, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke Rehabilitation.

The hospital continues to enhance its specialty rehabilitation programs and is pursuing Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care Certification for Parkinson's disease. Once achieved, the certification will reflect the organization's commitment to providing consistent, evidence-based care for patients with Parkinson's disease.
