At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Alexandria, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Dave has worked in the acute and post-acute healthcare fields in various leadership capacities spanning over 30 years. Before coming to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria as CEO, he served as a Regional Vice President for Select Medical Corporation (LTACH).
Medical Director
Dr. Dhulipala has been the medical director at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, since 1994. Prior to coming to Encompass Health, Dr. Dhulipala served as a staff physiatrist at the V. A. Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama; the associate medical director for South Louisiana Rehabilitation Hospital in Baton Rouge; and the medical director for Franklin Foundation Hospital. He began his medical education at Kurnool Medical College in India. He completed his residency at New York Medical College in Valhalla. Dr. Dhulipala has been certified since 1990 by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Dhulipala is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Therapy Operations
Vicki brings more than 20 years of rehab experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, where she has been employed since 1996. She graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy in 1989. Vicki also serves on the Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association Board.
Director of Quality/Risk Management
Michaela graduated with an associate's degree in nursing from Louisiana State University of Alexandria in 1998. Continuing her education, she attended Northwestern State University, to receive her bachelor's degree in Nursing in 2011. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Michaela served as chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at Riverside Hospital of La. for 18 years. There she was responsible for clinical, operational and financial leadership for a 28 bed long term acute care hospital. Michaela’s clinical background also includes prior experience as a rehab, hospice, and emergency room nurse. Her compassion and strong sense of dedication to serve the community are what drives her toward medical excellence. She is dedicated to high quality care and developing the next generation of nurses to lead in the ever-changing healthcare environment.
Chief Nursing Officer
Joanna Williams, RN, BSN, MSN-HCM has been the chief nursing officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria, since June 2015, overseeing nursing, respiratory therapy, wound care, infection control, and dietary services.
Prior to Encompass Health, she was the director of critical care services and served in other leadership roles in the critical care service line for 22 years. She obtained an associate's degree in nursing from Louisiana State University of Alexandria, a bachelor's degree in nursing from Northwestern State University, and a Master of Science in nursing and healthcare management from Loyola State University of New Orleans, La..
